Product Description

Fans of high humour will love this debut novel. Its style has been compared to Douglas Adams and Tom Holt, with just a dash of Dr Dolittle...

It’s not paranoia, if they really are out to get you...

Bill Posters is an ordinary kind of guy. He’s put a great deal of effort into it. So why does he think he’s being stalked by pigeons? That’s not normal, is it?

As if being harassed by winged vermin isn’t bad enough, Bill’s day is just about to get a whole lot worse. He’s got twenty four hours to save the world. Armed with a secret weapon more suited to the bathroom than the battlefield, Bill is joined by Fern, chunky knitwear aficionado, and Gregor, Chile’s second most dangerous assassin.

Bill isn’t the Chosen One, but for now he will just have to do.

Prepare to learn the Truth about Sharks and Pigeons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Debut, 30 Dec 2011

Saw this book advertised on Facebook, which was targeted at me because I'm a fan of Douglas. As I'm always on the lookout for humorous fantasy/sci-fi and it was charged at a reasonable price I thought I'd give it a go. This book was pretty much what I hoped it would be: lots of wonderfully absurd humour and concepts (like Leamington Spa being the capital of the world). The only minor criticism is that the the middle of the story saw the protagonist spending too much time in military bases, but the beginning and end more than made up for that. Ideally I would have given this story 4 and a half rating but as I don't have that option I will give it the full 5. Well done Matt Phillips!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun book..., 3 Dec 2011
This review is from: The Truth about Sharks and Pigeons (Kindle Edition)
The Truth About Sharks and Pigeons is a slipstream comedy drawing on the fantasy, science fiction and spy genres with a british sense of humour that does, indeed, bring to mind Douglas Adams and Robert Rankin. This is Phillips first novel and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do as his voice and confidence grows.

A fun read that will leave you smiling.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit too silly, 11 Jan 2012
This review is from: The Truth about Sharks and Pigeons (Kindle Edition)
I'm afraid this book requires more of a sense of humour than I seem to have. It's quite well written in that it does create some interesting pictures in your head (the pigeon is pretty cute) and it does raise a chuckle but I'm afraid it didn't sustain my interest and I gave up reading by the time the sharks were being introduced.
The book blends SF+Spy+Fantasy+quirky humour: and the latter doesn't create enough glue to stick the whole thing together for me. Sorry.
