About the Author

Fiona Dunbar was born in Hertfordshire. She grew up trailing around jazz clubs with her jazz musician stepfather and left school when she was sixteen to go to Art College. Fiona was a regular at the Camden Palace, her and a friend would spend all Thursday night making their clothes for the Friday night's clubbing. When Fiona realised she wouldn't be a famous artist, she began a commercial art career in TV and advertising. After a stint doing illustration for Punch, which she really enjoyed, Fiona began illustrating for picture books by other authors. It was at this time that she met her lovely American lawyer husband Pano. After living in New York for a number of years, where her two children were born, Fiona settled back in North London and began to write for children instead of drawing for them!

Fiona now lives in North London and is an active fundraiser for her children's primary school. She loves helping out with the Christmas pantomime and puts her eighties dressmaking skills to good use by making costumes! When she's not writing, painting or gardening, Fiona loves nothing better than to cook. Her creations might not be as magical as Lulu's but they bring just as much pleasure in the end!

A book that is a fab read for anyone around the age of 9 and over. This book is about a girl called Lulu Baker whose Dads new girlfriend is not as nice as she seems when Lulus Dad isnt around. There is also the girlfriends son who steals the only few photos that she has of her mother and when she tells her father, his girlfriend make him believe Lulu is lying. So one day she runs away and finds a book which has a message from her mother, there is also a recipe with some strange ingrediants that could make the girlfriend and her son the truth to what they have done.
I enjoyed this book so much that i read it in 2 days and want to read it again!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Truth Cookie 28 Aug 2005
By Lauren
Format:Paperback
Being a girl of 13 years of age I like a book which will keep me gripped and this certainly did. Lulu, the 12 year old main charater in this book, is struggling to get along with her monsterous soon to be step mother, Varaminta. PLus it doesnt make things better with Varanuintas son on the scence. However after a terrible birthday, Lulu finds out that maybe that it wouldnt be so bad after all because of a certain bookshop... This book has lots of twists and turns and keeps you hooked. However I do feel this is a book that you could not read again and again and again. So my advice to you is not buy it but perhaps lend it from your local libary.
