For many people, the idea of spending £77+ on a torch - any torch - would be absurd but, to lumen-loving beamers and flashaholics, that is a modest price to pay for the biggest & brightest beam on the block.
This is a cracking piece of kit, beautifully engineered and, even though the output is nearer 5,000 than 8,000 lumens, that is still almost DOUBLE the output from a Jaguar XKR HID headlight. Coming from a tiny, hand-held device like this, that is a stunning amount of light.
This Trustfire torch is essentially a budget version (or, if you're uncharitable, knock-off copy) of the Olight X6 Marauder - same body shape, same CREE XL LED's, same number of LED's, same arrangement (five in a circle, a sixth in the centre, each nestling in an individual silvered cone). The difference is that the Marauder weighs three times as much (1.5kg), has a separate battery pack, and costs five times as much (yes, FIVE TIMES as much - around £360-90). The Trustfire weighs just half a kilogram, INCLUDING the batteries, which are stored inside the barrel of the torch. The rechargeable 18650 batteries and chargers are inexpensive and readily available on the usual (Amazon, eBay etc) websites.
So, what does this £77 torch do that your common or garden £10 torch doesn't do? To really answer that, you need to go stand in the middle of a big field, in the middle of the country, in the middle of a winter night, then click the On switch. The entire field and any trees round about are instantly turned an intense, almost blinding blue-white, as if everything were covered in thick hoar frost. It's rather like having a set of football stadium lights in the palm of your hand.
However, if what you're after is beam and nothing else, then this torch is probably not for you.

As others have commented, the quality of manufacture seems very high indeed; it's not a big torch physically but it's massively constructed of nicely-machined aluminium alloy of some description. I'll be interested to see how the LEDs last - hopefully the heat-sinking has been properly dealt with. The branding on the item is Sky Ray, not Trustfire, and in fact this torch model doesn't appear on the Trustfire website so perhaps there's a bit of that good ol' branding shenanigins going on.

I'd agree with other commenters who doubt the accuracy of the 8000 lumen claim. It's all in how the measurement is taken and I'd guess, like others, that really we're looking at more in the region of 2000 Out-The-Front lumens but even so - it's extremely bright and capable of lighting up a street. I'd certainly advise against looking at the LEDs directly when on full power, or against shining it in someone else's eyes.

I bought from Techgiant after looking at the choice of sellers offering this item, because they seem to have a Channel Island base as opposed to others in mainland China. The torch arrived, beautifully boxed and packed, in 5 days having been posted in the UK. This was good because it also got round any issue of HMRC applying VAT to it coming in from China (no duty, but technically VAT-able).

I love it ,extremely reliable.ive had a maglite for well over ten years(six cell),and this is can definitely,be classed as its upgrade.it dosent have the zoom in and out facility, because it dosen't need it,and because of the wide range of settings from low, med, high, strobe, sos, you can't ask for anything else.because the market nowadays are so competitive, you may thing paying over £67.00 is a bit too much.but trust me you won't regreat, its a solid unit;in addition to it being waterproof(i did a shower test on it.....don't ask).

How i like to use this unit, for normal walking with impaired light,or none at all,i find the medium setting adequate;and let say if you where out,off road in the dark pitch black, the high setting. would be more than enough, having said that on the high setting you will be getting something like five hours ,pending on the ampage of the batteries(by the way it dose not come with batteries),and on medium setting it seems to last for a long time;and on low i'm quite sure i got around like 18hours(lost count ...ages.

As a Avid photographer, who at times likes to photograph things like food on impulse, this light comes in extremely handy,to diffuse the light on the ceiling.properly not 8000 lumen...can't really say,but more than enough plus more.i would therefore highly like to recommend you buy this item...please be patient and,..it takes awhile to deliver,i sent them a enquiry about the delivery ,and found a answer within 24 hours.

Update
On the 14th sept. 2014,I attempted to go up on ben nevis , at 03:00 , with two of these.three, and a half hours quite knackered, but the light was still operational.low to medium was enough.carried spare batteries, but didn't even have to use the back up one.

Took two weeks to arrive, came with four batteries.
This thing must be worth the cost in scrap aluminium - it's machined from a billet of solid aluminium , the handle is another 7mm of ali.
It's superbly made and not at all what I was expecting plus it looks great.

The handle is a very good idea and the button works well - click for on and then soft press to cycle the modes - always starts on full bright.

The light is just what I want..an area flood with some punch at the centre rather than a tight penetrating beam.

I have no way of telling how bright it is technical terms but I have 4500 lumen LED light tiles at work and the Trustfire is comparibly bright but throws it's light a lot further.

Battery life will presumably be OK as low lite mode is quite adequate for walking at night - same as a Cree Ever.

I've got more torches than there are days in a week and this a great addition.
