Trust Craig 3 Nov 2007
Format:Audio CD
Craig David will always have to go some way to beat the brilliant debut of Born To Do It, however with Trust Me he has come very, very close.

The album starts with current single 'Hot Stuff' which admittedly I hated upon first listen, is catchy, vibrant, R&B/Pop crossover. Craig's smooth vocals on the frenetic beat, laced with the 80's style and panache.

Next up comes '6 of 1 Thing', a phrase known to many British citizen no doubt, sums up women with precision one minute here, then they are there, telling you six of one thing, then half a dozen of another. The vibrant brass adds to the tempo of this track, giving it a welcome kick, while Craig clicks along nicely with casually bouncy vocals.

How many of us have been stuck at home on a 'Friday Night' waiting for something to happen, noone out, you're hyped, want to hit the club. Wrong side of ten noone picking up the phone. A smoother beat to this track, with Craig asking what's going on, painting a vivid picture of being stuck watching Have I Got News For You.

'Awkward' situations are something we all find ourselves in from time to time, whether it be the awkward silences in conversation or awkward meetings with an old flame. On this track Craig realises he may have made a mistake letting his girl go when he see's her with a ring on her finger, gone from the shelf. This track is very soulful, and definately not something you'd associate with Craig, but I think that is typical of this album. It's new it's fresh, and Craig is all the better for it. 16 year old Rita Ora features, with sultry vocals she will go far.

'Just A Reminder' is truly that, sections of the track make Craig sound like a youthful Michael Jackson, crossed with the two stepping R Kelly. Another soulful vibed track pushes this album higher in my esteem.

She's so sick like a dope melody Craig croons over 'Kinda Girl For Me' which takes a sample of 'You Are Everything' recorded by Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross. This is a nice melodic ditty which talks about the girl of Craig's dreams. Another soulful smash which firmly asserts this albums presence in the soul music market.

Reggae influence and fueled 'Shes On Fire' comes next and is one of the best tracks on this album upbeat, lively, and fresh. Craig uses his Caribbean 'roots' to full effect, with smooth lyrics, and 'Welcome to Jamrock' styled flow later in the track, a definate bonafide hit.

'Don't Play With Our Love' continues on the upward spiral. The Cuban atmosphere really took affect on this track cool sounding, and great instrumentation add to this track as much as the lyrics and vocals. Craig is asking his girl for trust with unfaltered lyrics and excellent breakdowns, and not forgetting the trademark flow, seen more in the 'Born To Do It' days. Another hit in waiting.

'Top of the Hill', is somewhat out of character for this album and is definately my least favourite. Lyrically it's quite poignant, but that isn't always enough.

K to the A, Craig to the D come next with their collaborative top 20 hit 'This Is The Girl' personally one of my favourites being a big fan of Kano. The strings and synth in this song attribute all that is missing from the album.

I suggest you buy it, listen and trust Craig, he has definately delivered with this fourth offering 'Trust Me'.

Craig David returns with a new look and a fresh new sound with his 4th studio album "Trust Me" which includes his most recent top ten hit "Hot Stuff (Let's Dance)" and brilliant collaboration with Kano, "This Is The Girl".

I loved "Hot Stuff" upon release and was expecting big things from "Trust Me". And, it's safe to say that it doesn't disappoint! "Hot Stuff" is by no means the only song on the album which will make a successful chart single. The album is full of clever, catchy songs (with its perfect blend of soulful ballads and upbeat dance floor-fillers), the majority of which are more than capable of being chart hits.

For me, it's almost impossible to choose a favourite track, however, some of the highlights of the album include, "She's On Fire", "6 Of 1 Thing", "Officially Yours" and "Kinda Girl For Me". The first two, in particular stand out and should definitely be released as singles in the near future.

Although there aren't many, it annoys me to see negative reviews of this album - which all compare "Trust Me" with Craig's last 3 albums. I know that any album that Craig releases will always be compared to his debut, "Born To Do It", but in my opinion, "Trust Me" can't really be compared because it's so different (but in the best way possible). "Born To Do It" was released in 2000 - we're now in 2007. Not only has music changed in these last 7 years, but obviously Craig has too. This album proves just how much he has grown and matured as an artist - demonstrating his unbeatable, flawless vocals, exceptional music writing abilities and touching, soulful lyrics - showcasing Craig perfectly, proving that he's in it for the long-haul.

All I can say is 'Buy it'! You won't be disappointed.

Having not heard much from CD for some while, he has suddenly burst back onto the scene with this pleasant mix of ballad and dance. I got this on the back of hearing the opening track while having MTV on in the background and, for the first time this year, suddenly looking up with a 'Whoa, what's this?!' moment.

There are no disappointing tracks here, and CD's voice is as smooth and soulful as ever. He's the X-factor winner Cowell and co could only dream of finding in their annual trawl of the hopeless and talentless. Trust Me has current pride of place on my iPod and likely to be for some time
