."[A] compelling memoir...Throughout his chatty tale, [Sorbo] drops enough Hollywood names to make any "Us Weekly" reader happy." --Booklist --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

I can recommend this book not only for fans of Kevin (Hercules) Sorbo but especially for anyone who needs inspiration on overcoming, in Kevins case, an illness or any set back. Kevin was at the peak of his fitness when he was struck down by 3 strokes in succession. He went from an on-screen demi-god to someone who had to learn to walk again and function with a loss of vision in both eyes as well as other side-effects. Thanks to a supportive partner (Sam Sorbo) and his faith in God, he overcame adversity. This is written from the heart, not in a pretentious hollywood movie star way, but like a down to earth regular guy telling you how he survived and beat the odds. It's also a love story of how his then fiance, now wife Sam, had to draw on her own strength to be strong for the man she loved. It has parts that make you laugh, make you stop and think, make you appreciate your health.. but most of all to have faith in yourself. The old saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" was never more fitting. An excellent book that you can read again and again.

I started to read this book and could not put it down. Kevin Sorbo is a natural author and should definitely write more books. He writes in such a way that you were there with him and felt all his pain and frustration. His wife Sam is a remarkable woman.
I watched the Hercules series with my grandchildren (who are now Adults) and could not believe that this could happen to such a fit person but I am glad that, although it took a long time, Kevin has recovered so well.

A very frank and honest account of a deeply moving life changing event. Mr Sorbo regales us with his highs and lays bare his lows.
For a long time few knew of his personal struggles and that was how he wanted it. I certainly had no idea. I'd long admired him as an actor, which was why I was interested to hear he'd written an autobiography, my favorite form of non-fiction. Now I admire him a whole lot more as a human being. His struggle with ill health could easily have destroyed a lesser man. Kevin reveals all, and doesn't sugar coat the negative reactions it brought out in him and the effects it had on those around him.
It could be maudlin, but Kevin makes it life-affirming. He is the living embodiment of Churchill's advice "when you're going through Hell, keep going." A true 'from triumph to tragedy and back again' story.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys autobiographies, and anyone who has enjoyed Mr Sorbo's performances, though I would caution that there is some swearing near the beginning.

This is an inspirational book. It will make you smile - even laugh out loud - and maybe even make you cry. A must for all fans of US actor Kevin Sorbo, who remember him from the days of Hercules:The Legendary Journeys, Gene Roddenbury's Andromeda or for the many, mostly indie, films he has made more recently. But it is not just a book for fans, because it is not just an ordinary autobiography. It also tells a personal tale of his fight back to health after he suffered 3 strokes. Anyone who has had to cope with adversity - especially heart or stroke or cancer - will find great encouragement as Kevin tells of his own slow recovery process. I think this book would make a great Christmas present.

I struggled with this book. It gave such a true emotional account of the turmoil someone facing a major crisis goes through. At times I wanted to applaud his and Sam's strength of character and, at other times, I wanted to shake him out of his self pity ( even though I could understand it.) He showed that true strength does not come from muscle power but from within. 'Hercules' was very brave in writing this book- I had to applaud his courage as he showed himself as Kevin the man and not Hercules the god. Well worth the read.

Having loved Ken Sorbo for years, I couldn't' t pass up a book by HIM (not a Hollywood Ghost writer). Was totally unaware of his illness, he hid it so well! His journey (Journey, Don't stop believing', ;) ) has helped me understand mine and hopefully battle/embrace it. One again Hercules and Dylan Hunt have come to the rescue.
I highly recommend this book, it's brilliant.
