Product Description

CD Description

60s and 70s Soul, Funk, Disco, Party-Rap and Boogie from Arkansas s Legendary Independent Label the second installment presented as a CD/DVD. 56-page full colour booklet contains never-before-seen photos and an interview between producer Eothen Egon Alapatt and True Soul founder Lee Anthony himself. Bonus DVD with excerpts from the True Soul Revue TV show Now-Again Records, in association with label-owner Lee Anthony, is proud to present the release of True Soul: Deep Sounds from the Left of Stax, a collection of rare and unreleased funk and soul music from the fabled Arkansas indie. Over twelve years in the making, this anthology presented over the course of two volumes of CD/DVDs and one four-LP box set seeks to establish True Soul s rightful place within America s funk and soul pantheon. As much as this CD/DVD set is about the adventurous, always-funky and oh-so-rare recordings that True Soul made possible, it is also about Anthony, the man. Anthony s story intertwines with the renowned Sam Philips an early mentor and patron and Memphis s Al Bell and Willie Mitchell with whom Anthony collaborated as he tried to cultivate Little Rock s funk and soul in the shadow of Stax and Hi Records. This anthology will make influence amongst the history of southern funk and soul is transparent, as his story of how he helped turn a stranded road band into the Gap Band.

The Wrong Track 29 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
The standard had to drop on volume 2, as the first one came loaded to
the brim with smoking grooves, and hit like thunder in a barrel of
dust. True Soul was a small label and their output limited, so it's
a bit unreasonable to compare it to the incredible high standard of
the first volume, but that's the natural thing to do, and this time around
the music is not as inventive or infectious and a lot of the songs doesn't
make much of an impression.
You get two dustkickers on volume 2. One is the instrumental version of
"Sister Funk", with a bassline that kicks cans without dropping sweat.
The other is YWPS's cover version of The Meters "Thank You", a reeeal
nice slice of sertified, dirtified funk.
The last part of the album goes disco. As I would charge you an immense
amount of money to put on disco pants, there is not much for me to get
carried away with on the last five songs.
If funk is the eagle of rhythm music, then disco is the fly.

JUST ONE STAR,I DARE SAY ZERO STRS,,, FOR the lousy package they made for this two FANTASTIC VOLUMES,,,THIS music ought to be treated with PROPER ACCURACY,,I mean that's real stuff,,the one you collect,,,
both the cd and Dvd have been stucked in a hard cardboard bookcase-like without an extra slip sleeve to prevent the cd from damage,,it's hard to get them out and once yuo get there you realise the cd's are already almost ruined and dirty from the mispackaging someone thought of doing,,maybe to retrench expenses,,to cut corners in the production,,the items are made in China??!!
I'M a keep the stuff just for the love of it,,,,another wiered thing I just can't undertstand why you made the liners note inside the booklet almost similar,, they changed some pictures here n' there it seems like they went wrong in crafting and collecting the pages....that's too bad..
lastly the MUSIC IS REAL FUNKY AND SOUL,,,PLEASE DON'T KEEP CUTTING CORNERS FOR THIS VALUABLE FUNK,,,MUSIC LIKE THIS WILL NEVER BE MADE AGAIN UNFORTUNATLEY.

SLEEYO FORM THA BOTTOM OF MY HEART,PEACE Y'ALL. JUST KEEPIN' FUNK ALIVE.
