Product Description

Review

The two of them the American who has played everywhere and the Scot who was weaned on links golf conduct this grand guided tour. So pull up a hassock and hop aboard! It s one thing that George Peper and Malcolm Campbell command the world of links golf, from ancient St Andrews to the newly minted Cabot Links. But they also write about their specialty with authority, insight, and passion. And when they say a course is a links, you can stake your favorite hybrid on it. --James W. Finegan, author of Where Golf Is Great

Product Description

An illustrated guide to the glories of the world s 246 Link Courses. Although to the uninitiated, links is synonymous with golf, in fact a links is a specific kind of golf course. It's located close to the sea, on dune-like terrain over sandy, infertile soil; this results in fast-running fairways, but the ever-changing maritime winds make playing the course the ultimate challenge in golf. After an entire chapter devoted to their No.1 links - the Old Course at St. Andrews (birthplace of the game) George Peper and Malcolm Campbell examine the 50 next best links, all located in the British Isles, in detail. Later chapters cover links in other parts of the World (their list has 5 courses in North America) and the newest links, built in the last 25 years as part of the environmentally sensitive minimalist movement. Most of the courses are captured in their glory by esteemed golf photographer Iain Lowe.

True Linkers 6 Sep 2011
By Smeats
Format:Hardcover
Beautifully written and presented book for all golfing fans. It is hard to believe that of the over 30,000 golf courses in the World only 246 meet the authors criteria for true links.
There is a select group of people, who have climbed all of Scotland's 284 mountains over 3000feet, who are known as Munro Baggers. I much prefer the challenge of playing the 246 True Links Courses and becoming a True Linker !

This is a book that one should read at least once. No, this is a book that one should read as often as you can. The honest description of what makes a true links course, from all those who would purport to be a "links" course, leaves no one in doubt. The Photography has an artistic quality as found in a Turner water colour painting. Either, opening and reading for five minutes, or standing, enthralled with the contents until your limbs go numb, describes, for me, the pleasure and satisfaction from this very fine publication.
