Unfairly slated in the music press for neglecting their roots and catering to Western tastes, this is a stomping, life-affirming album. Traditional Zimbabwean Chimurenga music is fused with rock'n'roll and disco to give a delightfully happy and danceable sound that reels you in right from the start.

There is simply not enough bhundu boys music widely available and still in print. i have seen this album on amazon for £30. There is definitely no filler on this wonderful record. My Foolish Heart is a highlight and you can still find this on the friends on The Road Album in a different (arguably better) version. Listening to True Jit is a positive and life affirming experience. As they say in the few words that accompany each track on the sleeve notes forget about your troubles and listen to jit music. like every record its a product of the time with a slightly over produced sound but this record easily overcomes such minor niggles. Its like looking at the mona lisa and complaining about the frame (well not quite but i hope you get my point).

Enjoy: its magical.

HASH(0x8c658240) out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to the Bhundu Boys 26 Jun. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I first saw the Bhundu Boys in England in the mid 80's and have been hooked ever since. True Jit is their most "commercial" album and the one most heavily influenced by western production techniques. However, I have always used this record as an introduction to African music for my friends who are interested in the genre as it is easy on the "western ear".

HASH(0x8c65b570) out of 5 stars hard to find 20 Sept. 2013

This CD is quite hard to find and I am not sure if it is worth the effort, unless
you have a Bhundu Boys collection that is missing a few albums!
Muchiyedza and the Shed sessions , to my ears, are much better.
They might all be in Shona, but the guitar and voice combination is just so good ,
that it brings a smile every time I spin them.
True Jit, and Friends on the road might be easier for english speaking people to understand, but something is
lacking. I hate to make comments that appear to keep any musician in his/her ethnic or cultural ghetto,
but in this case......

HASH(0x8c65b594) out of 5 stars Jit jive behind the full moon tonight... 6 Jan. 2005
By Dingle berry - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I just discovered these guys from some of my friends. I never listened to real african music before so I decided to see what all the fuss was about.

On the contrary, this is real good music. My favorite songs have to be Jit Jive, My Foolish Heart, and Chemezevana.

Pick it up if you see it...
