I've never been a huge Hal Hartley fan, but I've always found his work interesting and worth seeing. This attractive little book collects eight interviews the author conducted with Hartley from 1999-2004. These are presented in classic Q&A format, and cover his career as a filmmaker and stage director. Interspersed with the interviews are tons of stills from his work and of Hartley at work, with a 20 page filmography wrapping things up. What sets this apart from the standard film interview book is the top-notch design and production. Still, it's hard to imagine anyone not already a Hartley fan being that interested in it.
