Review

'Greg Iles has shown that he's among the most talented and ambitious of contemporary thriller writers...TRUE EVIL conjures monsters. It's scary, Gothic...reminded me of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and HANNIBAL...engrossing and fun'

(Washington Post 20060430)

'True evil, indeed, and scary enough to fit in with our times' (New York Daily News 20060430)

'Smooth prose, psychological depth and crafty plotting...and a fiendishly clever serial killer...This pulse-pounder is sure to be another bestseller' (Publishers Weekly, starred review 20060430)

'A compelling story line and characters that are multidimensional, possessing real depth and feeling...a must read' (Philadelphia Inquirer 20060430)

'Iles certainly knows both his medical and his detection stuff, and readers will follow, attentively, but fearfully' (Scotsman**** 20060430)

'Everything goes crazy and we the readers can only sit back and enjoy the mayhem. Brilliant!' (Independent on Sunday on TURNING ANGEL 20060430)

'What does a book's plot need to entice you? Sex, drugs, murder? How about sleazy politicians, bigotry, gunfights...and more sex?...If you haven't yet discovered Iles, TURNING ANGEL will have you wondering where he's been all your life' (USA Today on TURNING ANGEL 20060430)

'Iles's way of telling the story lifts him clear of the pack ... into a different league.' (Observer on BLOOD MEMORY 20060430)

'Alarming, believable, and utterly consuming ... resonates long after the final page is turned.' (Dan Brown on DARK MATTER 20051031)

'One of America's top new crime writers.' (Observer on Greg Iles 20061217)

'Explosive...powerful' (Chicago Sun-Times on TURNING ANGEL 20061215)

'Lurid...gripping, but there is more to TURNING ANGEL than sex and scandal. Iles offers an insider's heartfelt picture of a Southern town...and populates it with characters who are all too real' (Washington Post on TURNING ANGEL 20061212)

'A thriller writer's thriller writer' (Richard Cordon 20080222)

'Edge-of-the-seat thrills all the way.' (Irish Independent on BLOOD MEMORY )

'One of the most original and entertaining... writers to come down the pike in a long time'

(Denver Post )

'The poster boy of southern gothic thrillers' (Kirkus Reviews )

'The job of great fiction is to entertain, elucidate and educate while keeping readers nailed to their chairs; this does all of that brilliantly.' (Publishers Weekly on TURNING ANGEL )

'Fasten your seat belt...this mystery thriller will keep you zigging, zagging, speeding and cornering hard...The big question: can you hold your breath for 500-plus pages?'

(St Louis Post-Dispatch )

'Before you know it, you've reached the last page, and you're all out of breath - but you've had one hell of a ride' (Booklist )

'Complex, nuanced...In Iles' capable hands, good guys are likably flawed and bad guys are unimaginably nasty'

(Atlanta Journal-Constitution )

'Highly topical on many issues with strong characterisation and action throughout, running to a terrific climax'

WOW! 14 Dec 2006
By FRED
Format:Hardcover
I picked this book up yesterday afternoon as it looked like a good gift for a friend. When I got home I started reading it, just to check it out, by 2:00 am this morning I had finished the book! I had Never heard of Iles before but he is now one of my favorite authors. On the surface there seems to be nothing new here: FBI agent tracking down an evil genius serial killer. But wait there is much more here, the cackling prose, the depth of character, and clever plotting put this a notch above the typical modern day thriller. The main character is Alexandra Morse an FBI agent on the rise who is a specialist at hostage negotiation. But Alex life is far from perfect, in fact her personal life has been tragic: mother dying of cancer, father shot dead during a robbery, and her sister is dying from a stroke. Alex herself has a scared face and feels responsible for the death of a fellow agent after a misstep on the job. Alex arrives at her dying sisters's death in time for sis to tell her that she has been murdered by her husband! Could and attorney and a brilliant scientist be teaming up to offer clients a way to dispose of a spouse as a way of avoiding a long divorce battle? It is up to Alex to go under cover to find out, even against her superior's wishes! Once Iles ramps up the tension there is no looking back, this author is at the top of the thriller game!

TRUE EVIL - Greg Iles 18 July 2007

Format:Hardcover
I won't bother writing out a synopsis - you all know it. Suffice to say, this is a gripping thriller. Iles's best to date. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gripping page-turner 27 Jun 2007
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book in hardcover in Greymouth, New Zealand while travelling there alone some months ago (2007). I had read Black Cross and already appreciated how Iles is a master storyteller who paints his plot with unerring accuracy and suspense. This is an example of that storyteller at the height of his powers. Do not underestimate how good this book is. An absolute thriller. I sat up by torchlight in that campervan reading it and looking forward to getting back to it by day until it was done. You, like I, will be depressed once you finished.
