Product Description

Product Description

In True Crime: Streets of L.A., players assume the role of rogue Elite Operations Division (EOD) operative Nick Kang, a no-holds-barred badass, whose brutal reputation and lethal skills have landed him the nasty task of taking down the Chinese Triad and Russian Mafia cartel that has turned the City of Angels into a war zone. Take part in explosive gun battles with double-fisted firepower, devastating martial-arts brawls and high-speed shoot-outs across 250 square miles of accurately recreated LA. In car or on-foot, the unique branching missions include locating hostile witnesses, searching for case-cracking clues, taking out evasive informants and busting the heavily armed and deadly bad guys.

I have given the game five stars based on the fact that it costs less than a tenner and is a great game.
However regardless of price it is still a great game in its own right. It would be an exaggeration to say its better than GTAIII or even as good as GTAIII, but that's not to knock the game, as few games are as good as GTA or Vice City.
The game is played from a different perspective that GTA. In this game you are the good guy, the cop. You solve crimes instead of creating them. That certainly doesn't mean it is boring. Far from it. It is addictive and as it isn't quite as open a game as GTA you are propelled forward by the set story line. You can go off and 'play around' doing things but eventually you will reach the end of each level. In that way it's more of a traditional game than GTA.
Graphically the game is very good, as are the sounds and the dialogue is very good, especially the comments from the lead character. The music is very gangster rap, but it's not too off-putting.
If you have been playing GTA you will find the controls different, but it doesn't take long to get used to and it's definitely worth 15 minutes of perseverance.
If you have never played GTA you will be amazed at how good this game is. If you have played GTA you will still enjoy it.
Over all if you were at all considering this game I would say go for it. At less than 10 it's really impossible to be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not GTA, but still a good game... 7 Mar 2004
OK, so this isnt GTA, and dont buy it if thats what you are looking for, you WILL be dissapointed, but on the other hand if you are looking for a genre crossing, fun game, then i would get this. The game has 4 main elements, Shooting, Driving, Fighting and Stealth (not a big part of the game), you are kinda forced into doing these at different times, but it works well, and it helps to keep the story flowing. The story isnt bad, but isnt great either, takes a few twists and turns, but is generally ok.
I have heard quite a few people complaining about the camera in this game, but I've finsished the game and its only let me down twice. So its not really a problem. Graphiclly its nice to look at but not anything special. The cars all have different handling, and specs, and are nice to look at.
Throught the game, you have the ability to upgrade your driving, fighting and shooting abilitys, RPG style, this is an incentive for completeing the random crimes and makes the game alot easier if you have at least some of the upgrades.
So overall Im gonna give this 4 ( I would give 4.5 but that aint an option). It is a solid game, with no major flaws. I had a alot of fun with it! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars True Crime - a class act 17 Jan 2004
True crime - streets of LA is an absolute wicked game. The gameplay, graphics and storyline in my view are class. You go around beating the living daylights out of people with different martial arts moves and cruising aroung in different cars. In the game you are given missions to do and can solve typical LA crimes in the way. You are also given chances to win different guns, cars and martial arts moves, you can also search anybody on the street, whenever. True crime is like GTA, but in True crime your a cop whereas in GTA your a nutter. I would encourage and support anyone to buy this class game, which you will get easily addicted to, until you complete it(V Hard to do).

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad game, but repetitive 11 Nov 2004
When I first go this game I thought It would be brilliant, it is for a while, but then the missions are virtually all the same. And when you go on the rampage and kill a load of people they dont resist or anything - boring. Some of the cheats are excellent though.

3.0 out of 5 stars True Crime: Streets of LA Review 26 Mar 2004
This game is very entertaining, well, until you realise how irritatingly repetitive the storyline is.
Even though this game is very repetitive, it is still a very good game to play and one of the things about this game which you don't see very often is that you don't have to complete a mission to continue with the main story. This is a very good thing for all those people who play games, get stuck with a level, and never play the game again.
This game a reasonable game overall but you will probably get bored after completing (or failing) the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A game to be played!! 27 Nov 2003
True Crime was supposed to be better than GTA Vice City or at least have its similarities. But unfortunately the only thing the same is the brilliant music that accompanies the game at ecery minute.
Anyway the game is quite good. Its storyline is set on the the character Nick Kang , a disturbed cop that goes back to work but ends up trying to find out the truth of what happened to his father.
The way the game moves along is very good as because if you fail a mission then you can go onto an alternative mission, which is totally different in the area of gaming, is one of its highlights.
The graphics are reasonable compared to GTA Vice City but nothing spectacular again compared to the hype surrounding the game prior to its release.
Disappointingly, background charcters seem to pop up again and again in the missions whisch spoils it.
Overall the game is good but becomes extremely repitive. Tryable but ,maybe not buyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stick with GTA
True Crime has great potential with a good storyline and a good cast of voice acters. But all this is overshadowed by a cheesy dialogue and poor gameplay.Be safe and stick with GTA.
