I read this after seeing the movie, so the story and the outcome came as no surprise. I was amused by one of the reviews that wondered why it hadn't been made into a movie, given that it has (in the same year as the review).
In many ways the book is better. The movie was uncompromisingly dark whereas here there is some light relief. The author ratchets up the tension very well and if I hadn't seen the movie, I would have felt it even more. Although the story is quite simple - lacking the complexity of David Kessler's [
Mercy - it more than holds its own in the pace and tension department.
