True Brit Grit is  45 British crime writers, 45 short stories. All coming together to produce a gritty anthology, benefiting two charities ... Children 1st - children1st.org.uk/ and Francesca Bimpson Foundation - francescabimpsonfoundation.org

5.0 out of 5 stars A Slap In The Face 20 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This anthology of short stories is like a vicious slap across the face when you're cornered in a dead end alley. Various writers take the reader on a dark journey into rain soaked streets where menace and death are lurking around every corner. There's sadness and humour within these stories but very little redemption. I found this a great read in short bursts, returning to it between longer novels so that the stories stayed fresh. To summarise the perfect choice for short sharp shocks but be prepared for some bleak evenings where hope has no harbour. This is a charity compilation so well done to the authors for giving their work to a worthy cause.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Brit Grit-A Charity Anthology by various authors 19 Jun 2012
By Karen Doering - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
True Brit Grit is a collection of 45 short stories by various authors intended as a charity anthology.

This is not one of those nice little cozy British mystery collections with stories that comfort and charm. True Brit Grit is a collection of stories that will keep you thinking, working to puzzle it out and in some cases keep you awake wondering if you locked all the doors and windows.

The editors did a nice job of making sure each story is unique and none mirror another.

There were names on the author list I was familiar with and many that I was not. A nice way to see work by new to me authors.

Usually in a collection there will be at least one story that didn't interest me or one that I didn't care for, but this time I liked every story. Since I find it hard to pick a most favored or least favored I will just say this is worth the read. Well edited, well written by each author and presented in an order that makes sense, I recommend this for mystery lovers and those who like a collection of short stories by the bedside table or as a take along to those appointments where spending time in a waiting room with years old magazines is required.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best on the block 24 Feb 2013

Loved each of these stories, they started me off on a noire binge that ran through other collections but also through many of the individual authors. Great introduction to writers I might not have considered otherwise. Quick reads and tasty as a bag of crisps, but satisfying long after. Well done!

A great book of Britain's modern crime stories. Hard boiled, fast paced, and full of beloved British humor these stories will keep you up at night. A great anthology, and one everyone should read. Besides, it is for a great cause!
