Trouble for Trumpets has been a hit with all my 3 boys. The youngest, now 5 still loves it being read to him. I think the appeal lies in the very detailed illustrations which even adults can look at for ages, and in the story of the Trumpets (peace loving creatures) battling against the baddies, the Grumpets, with all of them looking like strange bears. Combining a very detailed natural history in each picture along with hidden things to find in a fantasy world complete with imaginary weaponry, this book is quite unique. I only wish there were more!

The amazingly detailed and beautifully drawn illustrations that this book boasts are truly amazing. I remember sitting looking at the small details within these captivating illustrations as a kid, they display both complexity and clarity beyond anything I had seen before or have seen since. 15 years on I would urge anyone to track down a copy for your child or indeed if illustration is your thing yourself. This work demands a reprint.

This book is absolutley fantastic. The illustrations by Peter Cross are not only thought provoking they hide a deeper intelligence, very clever!!The story is also extremely charming too!!
