'THE TROUBLE WITH MAGIC' is the very promising debut in the series featuring the Magnum PI loving heroin Maggie O'Connell and a cast full of "enchanting" characters.
After losing her job Maggie literally stumbles upon a great opportunity working at Enchantment's, an antique store that specializes in unique treasures. The stores owner, Felicity Dow, is everything Maggie aspires to be, worldly, sophisticated, wise...and, oh did I mention she is also a witch? Growing up as a "good catholic girl" Maggie has a hard time believing in such nonsense but beggars can't be choosers so she readily accepts Felicity's job offer not knowing just what she was getting herself into. Soon Felicity is accused of murdering her sister and Maggie finds herself caught up not just in the investigation but also in a world of magic that she never knew existed in her small Indiana town.
My only wish would have been that there were more magic in this book, however, I do believe that Ms. Alt is setting the stage for some great things to come. Madelyn Alt has delivered a very promising debut to this charming series and I cannot wait to see how Maggie's powers develop as well as what some of the other characters are capable of. 3.75 Stars!!
