Product Description

Review

"Manages to combine the right depth of pathophysiology with practical solutions to diagnosing and treating these illnesses rarely encountered in Western medicine. Using well constructed flow charts and diagrams it provides the reader with a sound method to tackle problems whether starting from a specific symptom (e.g. fever) or approaching a specific disease." (ACP News, March 2010)

Product Description

Lecture Notes: Tropical Medicine is a comprehensive introduction to tropical medicine. The new edition is in full colour throughout with over 40 colour images integrated with the text. There is a new chapter on syndromes of undernutrition (in both children and adults), and the section on non–communicable diseases has been extended to include mental health problems in the tropics.

The core information is presented in a clear and concise way, with extensive use of diagrams, algorithms, tables and boxes. All chapters have been updated to reflect current best practice and the annotated bibliographies and lists of web–based resources have been extended. The chapters on HIV, tuberculosis and malaria have undergone particularly extensive revision, reflecting rapid changes in these areas since the last edition.

Lecture Notes: Tropical Medicine is particularly aimed at postgraduate doctors attending tropical medicine courses, as well as medical students taking a tropical medicine elective period. It will also be useful to a wide range of other health professionals involved with medicine in the tropics, or imported tropical disease.

Highly practical 20 Oct 2006
Format:Paperback
I used this book while working as a volunteer doctor in Zambia and Uganda. It is clear, concise and very practical. The fact that my copy is now so battered is a testament to its usefulness! The only are that I think could be expanded is the HIV chapter as that seemed to make up the bulk of my work.

If you are planning to work in the tropics then this book is a must.

Tropical notes 23 July 2009
Format:Paperback
Got this to help with DTM&H and it has been very useful indeed. When combined with the Tropical Disease atlas there's not much more you need to know to get you started in this area of interest.

Tropical medicine, gives a through review on dieases that are specific for the tropics. The book has a pratical aprouch to diagnosis not requiring high support.
A good book if you by any chance get to work in the tropics as a doctor
