Book Description

9 Sep 2011 Tales of the Dark Forest (Book 3)

Third title in the comedy fantasy series from the creators of the Lost Diaries.

The Dark Forest is a world. Cities, towns and villages exist like islands in a green sea, while in the Forest itself live hermits, wizards and all manner of weird and wonderful creatures – some invented, some strangely familiar.

BOOK 3: TROLLOGY
A tale in Three Parts, following the misadventures of poor old Bertram – a troll who’s a complete failure as he can’t tell chalk from granite, but who discovers a talent for cooking. (His rock cakes are amazing!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Rainy day fun 11 Aug 2003
Format:Paperback
I’ve never read one of these books before (and this is the third in the series) and I have to confess I wouldn’t have bothered if it hadn’t been for the fact that we were camping and it was raining. What else is there to do except read? This book came highly recommended by my nine year old, so I gave it a go. What a hoot! It reads like less sophisticated Terry Pratchett, (and I’m one of those sad people who love Terry’s work, but miss half the jokes even when I’ve read the books twice!), so the obvious puns were rather fun. The characters were lovable, Bertram the troll, who loves daylight, and Cliff the lemming who can’t quite bring himself to throw himself off the mountain as a normal lemming would, (should he shout ‘geometry’ as he goes, or was it something else beginning with G?) have to leave the mountain, live with humans, and save the world. Highly recommended for any child who likes humorous stories with heroes, villains, and magic. And if your child prefers you to read to them, then this will enliven the bedtime story hour no end!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great adventure with hints of Shrek and Lord of the Rings for pre-teens 21 May 2007
By L. Thelin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My son and I are reading this for bedtime story at present and are thoroughly enjoying the travels of Bertram the troll and his suicidal sidekick Cliff the lemming. Its a great read out loud story with sound effects and accents written in. As a Brit in the USA its a breath of home in the comedic style and language. I'd also recommend its predecessor Whizzard.
