Product Description

BAFTA® and Golden Globe® nominee Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) and Mark Addy (Game of Thrones, The Full Monty) and from the producers of The IT Crowd and The Office, comes Trollied, a new and original British comedy. And it's definitely one to check out...

Set in Valco, it finds the funny in one of our most familiar surroundings and focuses on the types of characters we all recognise: bored checkout staff, ineffectual managers and a range of customers, from the irate to the downright bizarre.

Acting deputy manager Julie (Horrocks) struggles to assert her authority whilst trying desperately hard to make a good impression on store manager Gavin (Jason Watkins, Being Human). Her people skills are significantly lacking for a start, often to the amusement of butchery double-act Andy (Addy) and Kieran (Nick Blood, Material Girl).

The butchers enjoy winding each other up and, while Andy's life is all about meat, Kieran is bored of chops, mince and ribs. He wants something better from life. Similarly, on checkouts, Katie (Chanel Cresswell, This Is England) is fed up and dreams of going travelling. Meanwhile, new starter Margaret (Rita May, Coronation Street), a recruit of Valco's older person employment scheme and a constant source of irritation to Julie, soon finds she isn't suited to a career on the tills. Deferring to the delicatessen, a whole new world of olives and couscous opens up for her...

Trollied is directed by Paul Walker (Shameless), scripted by a team of writers led by Julie Rutterford (Shameless) and executive produced by BAFTA® Award winner Ash Atalla (The IT Crowd, The Office).

This 2 disc set contains all 8 episodes of the series and a trolley load of extras including:

Why I Hate Shopping The cast and crew say what they hate about shopping!

Video Diaries by Nick Blood and Joel Fry

Behind the scenes creating and designing the Valco world

Out-takes which will have you rolling in the aisles

And more ....

Got this DVD as no access to satellite - should have been on BBC or ITV as deserves greater exposure. Original and witty with a terrific array of characters that are all easily identifiable (probably in ASDA!) What was especially good about this DVD were the extras. It was fascinating to watch and learn how the show developed, how they designed the set and the difficulties encountered not only in production but it actually getting it made. The cast interviews were very good too, although Jane Horrocks came across as not a very pleasant person and I thought would be quite difficult to work with.

Will certainly get series 2 when it arrives on DVD.

As the 75 reviews before mine state, Trollied is a British comedy series set in a supermarket, starring Jane Horrocks, and is an original Sky TV production.

While ostensibly similar to Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies (of which we were very fond), this is not of the same calibre. There is much more smut and juvenile humour in this series, so it's not a show to watch in front of Granny! (Yes, we did discover that on Christmas Day...oops). The cast are capable and make the best of the script, so hopefully it will improve in future series as there is definitely potential there.

Funny in parts and worth a watch but not a classic by any means.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that 99% of Sky's original programming sucks... game shows, talent shows, drama and now comedy - they've tried it all and it's all been pretty bad.

As a former employee of Tesco, I was always quite surprised that there hadn't been a comedy about supermarket life since it does tend to involve a wide variety of (sometimes crazy) characters from all walks of life. Now Trollied has come to fill that void but instead of offering a 'The Office' style mockumentary (one of the show's executive producers was Ash Atalla, of The Office fame) the show leans more towards a Little Britain-esque satirical view.

A lot of the comedy is crude and most characters are caricatures - loosely based on real humans but hopefully not actually found interacting with customers in our country's supermarkets. That said, it's these characters that are the funniest and most interesting.

The show picks up as the episodes progress and, all in all, this is a solid first-effort from Sky in comedy. If they keep it up, I'm sure they'll land on a good comedy formula before too long. In the meantime, Trollied is worth a watch, although I would begrudge paying as much as £11.00 for it.

Most people have had the misfortune to work in a supermarket at some stage, I myself am an ex sainsburys Saturday boy, and so this series does nicely tap into something very familiar with almost everyone

I really enjoyed this series, and as I missed it on tv I think being able to watch it in one go via DVD really helped with some of the characters development.
The two main names (Mark Addy from the Full Monty and the wonderful Jane Horrocks from Ab Fab) are of course wonderful but don't detract from the main ensemble cast. The two customer service / tannoy girls are wonderfully vile and corse until they press the buttons to speak to the store. The hunky butcher and the gorgeous checkout girl provide romantic effect - of a sort, but my personal favourite is actually the (shall we say, more sexually open) checkout girl who just comes out with some of the vilest (and funniest) comments

It isn't the comedy of the year but I'm very much hoping there will be a second series

If you have ever worked in retail then you will understand where this comedy is coming from and possibly be able to identify some of the characters as closely resembling former/current colleagues. I have never worked in a supermarket but did work in another retail market as a student. The opportunities for observational comedy are numerous and with Trollied they have picked up on the absurdities of every day working life.
With a wonderful cast and great script, this is a super little comedy and I can't wait for Series 2!

Staring Jane Horrocks and Mark Addy this comedy show set in a supermarket is endearing and has interesting characters. I particularly liked the two ladies who make the announcements and the old wacky lady. All the cast are strong and its interesting to see Horrocks play a ambitious brown-noser. Overall though i felt that although amusing i didn't really laugh out loud, its watchable certainly but hardly comedy gold. Also, one can't help but wonder how long a comedy series set in one location (the supermarket) can last. Still, there are worse comedy shows out there and i'd still recommend the show to fans of Jane Horrocks. Extras include out takes and behind the scenes.

I'm not sure what's wrong with this series, great writers, certainly great actors and a perfect setting for a comedy, but it just doesn't seem to gel for me. There are many parts that get me smiling but nothing that made me laugh out loud. I found Jane Horrocks as the temporary assistant manager, more irritating than anything else, yet she is such a great actor that I kept hoping, just for her even, that it would get better, but it didn't. Please try again, because I'm willing it to succeed.
