Product Description

BAFTA® and Golden Globe® nominee Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) and Mark Addy (Game of Thrones, The Full Monty) and from the producers of The IT Crowd and The Office, comes Trollied, a new and original British comedy. And it's definitely one to check out...

Set in Valco, it finds the funny in one of our most familiar surroundings and focuses on the types of characters we all recognise: bored checkout staff, ineffectual managers and a range of customers, from the irate to the downright bizarre.

Acting deputy manager Julie (Horrocks) struggles to assert her authority whilst trying desperately hard to make a good impression on store manager Gavin (Jason Watkins, Being Human). Her people skills are significantly lacking for a start, often to the amusement of butchery double-act Andy (Addy) and Kieran (Nick Blood, Material Girl).

The butchers enjoy winding each other up and, while Andy's life is all about meat, Kieran is bored of chops, mince and ribs. He wants something better from life. Similarly, on checkouts, Katie (Chanel Cresswell, This Is England) is fed up and dreams of going travelling. Meanwhile, new starter Margaret (Rita May, Coronation Street), a recruit of Valco's older person employment scheme and a constant source of irritation to Julie, soon finds she isn't suited to a career on the tills. Deferring to the delicatessen, a whole new world of olives and couscous opens up for her...

Trollied is directed by Paul Walker (Shameless), scripted by a team of writers led by Julie Rutterford (Shameless) and executive produced by BAFTA® Award winner Ash Atalla (The IT Crowd, The Office).

This 2 disc set contains all 8 episodes of the series and a trolley load of extras including:

Why I Hate Shopping The cast and crew say what they hate about shopping!

Video Diaries by Nick Blood and Joel Fry

Behind the scenes creating and designing the Valco world

Out-takes which will have you rolling in the aisles

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: 2-DVD Set, Behind the scenes, Deleted Scenes, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Set in Valco, a fictional supermarket in the north-west of England, Trollied is an eight-part sitcom that puts a comic twist on one of our most familiar surroundings. Acting deputy manager Julie (BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Jane Horrocks, Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) struggles to assert her authority and fails at almost every attempt to make a good impression on store manager Gavin (Jason Watkins, Being Human). She also has something of a crush on Gavin, who manages to rebuff her clumsily executed flirtations - that is, if he's aware of them at all. Julie's many weaknesses include a significant lack of people skills, a source of amusement for butcher double-act Andy (Mark Addy, Game of Thrones, The Full Monty) and Kieran (Nick Blood, Material Girl). While Andy is a dedicated to the art of butchery, his young apprentice Kieran is bored of chops, mince and ribs. Similarly, at the checkout, a fed-up Katie (Chanel Cresswell, This Is England) dreams of going travelling. The only good thing about her job in Valco is the clear chemistry she has with Kieran. Meanwhile, new starter Margaret (Rita May, Coronation Street), a recruit of Valco's older person employment scheme, is a constant source of irritation to Julie and far from a natural on the tills. ...Trollied - Complete Series 1 - 2-DVD Set ( Trollied - Complete Series One )

Most people have had the misfortune to work in a supermarket at some stage, I myself am an ex sainsburys Saturday boy, and so this series does nicely tap into something very familiar with almost everyone

I really enjoyed this series, and as I missed it on tv I think being able to watch it in one go via DVD really helped with some of the characters development.
The two main names (Mark Addy from the Full Monty and the wonderful Jane Horrocks from Ab Fab) are of course wonderful but don't detract from the main ensemble cast. The two customer service / tannoy girls are wonderfully vile and corse until they press the buttons to speak to the store. The hunky butcher and the gorgeous checkout girl provide romantic effect - of a sort, but my personal favourite is actually the (shall we say, more sexually open) checkout girl who just comes out with some of the vilest (and funniest) comments

It isn't the comedy of the year but I'm very much hoping there will be a second series

I finally got around to watching these the other day, and I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be.

In fact, dare I say it, it was pretty funny. Comedy is so hard to write, but I thought the humour and characters in Trollied were all pretty good.

Life in a supermarket is an obvious premise for a show and it works well, as you have wide cast of characters with a good set of dynamics along with plenty of props. It literally offers you every ingredient you could ever want as a writer.

However, I thought this would be a bland series for boring old fuddy-duddies, when in fact, it's quite close to the bone and adult in nature. I say, give it a go and check (it) out.

Trollied 8 Mar 2012

Having just caught the last two episodes of this series on TV, I just had to buy the DVD. This is the best comedy series I have seen on TV since Last of The Summer Wine finished. The charcters portrayed are a real hoot, and having a big name like Jane Horrocks in it is just such a brilliant idea.
Don't know if anyone else who has seen this series has noticed a resemblence to the characters when they visit their local supermarket, I know that I have, even if only in a minor way. I think that they have done such a brilliant job, as it could so easily have gone over into a farce, but it has just enough 'fun', and funny situations, plus the actors are so 'in character' that I almost forgot I was watching a DVD.
As a friend of mine had never seen the series either, I invited her and her daughter to come over and see it. I actually ended up with 6 people and myself, all crowded round the TV to see the DVD. Well, what a party we had that afternoon, everyone was in stitches, I thought at one time that I would have to call an ambulance because a couple of the girls laughed so much that they couldn't catch their breath. Luckily, we were able to calm them down - maybe a stiff drink had something to do with it - and we had a discusion afterwards as to which character we liked best.
I can reccomend this to everyone who likes to have a good laugh, as you will not be disappointed, but make sure that you have your local hospital on speed dial, as you may well need it!!

Any laughs to be found in this collection? Definitely - but not usually belly laughs, just little grunts and titters. Jane Horrocks is wasted as Acting Depity Manager Julie. Read more
