Book Description

9 Nov 2010
TRIZ first emerged from the former Soviet Union in the 1990's. TRIZ is the Russian acronym for Theory of Inventive Problem Solving. TRIZ is a set of tools for directing creative thinking based upon the study of patents. Breakthrough thinking is not left to creative inspiration. Instead, new and innovative ideas that solve simple to highly complex technical problems or create new inventions can be systematically derived. TRIZICS is an organized process for the practical application of TRIZ, it incorporates TRIZ tools into a simple step-by-step framework that includes the logic of structured problem solving, leverages TRIZ tools for root cause analysis, and directs the user to select the appropriate TRIZ tool to use during the problem solving process. TRIZICS Reviews "It is probably one of the 5 books that in the field of engineering I consider a milestone." Salvatore Nasisi. “As an innovation professional, I have headed R&D departments, produced patents, and invented my share of stuff, but Cameron's book --a comprehensive guide to invention and problem solution-- is the best I have ever seen, bar none… TRIZICS is the new quintessential resource for creative problem solving and invention.” Joe Colannino - Chief Technical Officer (CTO) “…the most lucid and informative book on TRIZ I have read. Most importantly it clarifies when and when not to use the TRIZ methods in a way that is clear and obvious… Congratulations on producing a guide that anyone can follow with a bit of effort to scale the TRIZ Everest to Base Camp in a week and all the way to the summit with the assurance of having a Sherpa guide…” Mike McMenamin - Master of Science in Lean Operations “Gordon Cameron has written an excellent comprehensive treatment of TRIZ. The book covers the spectrum of the TRIZ tools starting with the basics of solving contradictions to more sophisticated tools such as substance field analysis and ARIZ. I would recommend reading this book to those just learning the subject as well as more advanced users.” - Steven Ungvari, Lean Six Sigma Master, Graftech International. “This book is brain food of the highest level and should be considered the sole truly applicable problem solving method using TRIZ. Sorry other TRIZ authors, but you lose….I delayed bothering with TRIZ many times in the past because no one could really explain it. So, if you want to learn TRIZ or want to learn new ways to think about it, you'll get what you're looking for right here…TRIZICS is an extremely comprehensive problem solving method that makes complicated things possible…I recommend you buy and use this book. The information is great and the design of that information is great also, which seems lost on anyone else who tries to explain this stuff. TRIZICS is the only book you'll ever need on TRIZ, so get it already!” -Dan Bergevin, the Behance network “A great presentation of TRIZ in an easy-to-understand format. I have recommended your book... Great job!” -Terry Burton, President and Chief Executive Officer - The Center for Excellence in Operations, Inc. (CEO) “Great book, extremely comprehensive. No one else has produced a book this in depth across such a large body of knowledge in the domain of TRIZ…it does justice to many areas of TRIZ that just aren't covered in the depth I have found elsewhere…I can't recommend this book highly enough to instructors, teachers, students, whether they be a beginner or advanced.” Richard Platt Managing Partner - Principal - The Strategy + Innovation Group LLC “This book was a revelation - it made the subject straightforward, logical and readable. It presents a clear explanation of the various tools of TRIZ and where they might be applied.” Mark Cullen - Equipment engineering, GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc. 5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on TRIZ I have read 19 Jan 2012
By Julie
Format:Paperback
I have read several books on TRIZ. After reading the impressive reviews on the U.S. Amazon site I decided to buy "yet another" TRIZ book. I'm so glad I did. This is the best book on TRIZ I have read bar none! It describes clearly and logically all the individual tools of TRIZ and then provides a simple system for how to use the various TRIZ tools in order, depending the type of problem you are trying to solve. Fantastic, I wish I had bought this book first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible 7 Dec 2010
By Real Horror Show - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As a non-scientist new to TRIZ, I was concerned that Trizics would be too advanced and convoluted to understand. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I found it to be accessible and understandable. It contains numerous step-by-step logical examples and illustrations. I recommend it to anyone interested in the topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of TRIZICS 27 Nov 2010
By Richard Platt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Great book, extremely comprehensive. No one else has produced a book this in depth across such a large body of knowledge in the domain of TRIZ, (Russian acronym for the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) a very informative and useful book. I also noted that has also many very informed, and learned contributors who have really helped to make this a really strong reference book, let alone text book for teaching and learning this inventive methodology.

It does justice to many areas of TRIZ that just aren't covered in the depth I have found elsewhere. In reviewing this book I really enjoyed the templates that showed the flow of where and when to use the different tools, again not something that I've seen covered in other TRIZ books in such an easy to use format. I really liked the flow chart, the TRIZICS roadmap, it is better than any other TRIZ tool use roadmap that I've seen publicly presented.
No other book on TRIZ does this to near the degree that you'll find in this book. The descriptions that Mr. Cameron has put in here really add granularity where it is needed in a comprehensive and useful manner.

I can't recommend this book high enough to instructors, teachers, students, whether they be a beginner or advanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRIZICS: a TRIZ system that actually works! 18 Feb 2012
By Dan Bergevin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am so glad there is someone out there like Gordon Cameron. This book is brain food of the highest level and should be considered the sole truly applicable problem solving method using TRIZ. Sorry other TRIZ authors, but you lose.

I know what you're asking, you want to know what's in it for you, right? I delayed bothering with TRIZ many times in the past because no one could really explain it. So, if you want to learn TRIZ or want to learn new ways to think about it, you'll get what you're looking for right here. TRIZICS has almost 400 pages packed top to bottom with mental challenges. You could read this book every day for a year and never stop learning new things. And since the only way to figure this stuff out is to use it, you might also have a very productive year.

Of course, TRIZ is a pretty complicated system. I really don't get the impression that many people, scholastic or professional, really know how to explain and implement it. And while TRIZICS explains it well and teaches you how to implement it, you still have to think a lot and try it out a lot in order to really learn anything at all.

Is it worth it? As TRIZICS is a extremely comprehensive problem solving method that makes complicated things possible (although not necessarily less complicated) I would say yes, and recommend you buy and use this book. The information is great and the design of that information is great also, which seems lost on anyone else who tries to explain this stuff. TRIZICS is the only book you'll ever need on TRIZ, so get it already!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trizics 3 Dec 2010
By Mark Cullen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I had learned through experience that TRIZ was difficult to learn. Some of it's concepts were difficult to grasp and prone to be implemented incorrectly.

This book was a revelation - it made the subject straightforward, logical and readable. It presents a clear explaination of the various tools of TRIZ and where they might be applied.

Even though it is essentially a technical problem solving process, I could not recommend this highly enough to non-technical people involved in routine, day-to-day problem solving as part of their job. A technical background is not needed to understand and apply the techniques in full, as they are explained in such a clear, logical manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, Informative 14 Dec 2010

Precisely written book about a subject of which I had previously been unaware. The methodologies discussed have been useful for day to day problem solving as well as being applicable to more vexing predicaments. Highly recommended.
