Book Description

For too long, have books on trivia quizzing focused on memorization of facts. This book promises to be different. It features trivia quizzes where it is fun to work out or deduce the answer. And even if you are unable to work out a particular question, you will be left with a "Shucks, I should have guessed that" feeling once you see the answer.

The questions have been structured in a way that you will remember them for a long time to come. This is the book that you should gift your children if you want to get them interested in Trivia Quizzing.

Please note: This volume of InQUIZitive is a combination of the previous two volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Book For Trivia 15 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the third in a series of Pub Quiz Books and Trivia by the author, Sumit Dhar. I have found in the past three books that these trivia and quizzes really work the brain. This one is no exception. I can see that Sumit works diligently to find this trivia and work it into a quiz. For those of you who are trivia buffs this is the perfect book.

One of the first mentions of the word 'trivia' was used to describe a place where three roads met in Rome.

"In the 1960s, nostalgic college students and others began to informally trade questions and answers about the popular culture of their youth. The first known documented labeling of this casual parlor game as "Trivia" was in a Columbia Daily Spectator column published on February 5, 1965." Wiki

Summit Dharma has put together an entire book filled with trivia questions and in the following chapter, the answers. There are five trivia questions in each chapter and a total of 100 in all. Our culture is filled with trivia in our everyday experiences. This book gives us an explanation of an event, and with the clues, we then try to come up with the answer. It took me awhile to get into the swing of the questions, and then how to take the clues and reveal the answer. Some I did not know, but as I kept on with the trivia, I realized I was able to more quickly figure out the answers. This kept my mind very active. As an avid 'Words With Friends' player, this added trivia game is a real plus.

I use the e-book, and I can quickly find the place where I stopped and move on. This trivia quiz book becomes addicting!

As usual I didn't pay anything for this book. It showed up in my email unasked for directly from the author. It has been my experience that this is a VERY bad sign for most books but in this case I was very pleasantly surprised.

In general I'm not a fan of trivia books because they're just disconnected random facts that don't really have any cohesion and don't build on each other well. I just can't stuff all that randomness into my head and expect it to stay put. This trivia book is not one of those. Instead of "Who won the British Open in 1989?" each question is a story and the question is often along the lines of "who is this story about" or "how is this person better known". It appeals because it puts the unknown bits out first and when you find the answer the reaction is usually, "OH! THAT guy!"

The only constructive point I might make is that the book does tend to use up a lot of space repeating the question. The format of each section is 5 questions laid out like:

Question Section
Question 1
Question 2
Question 3
Question 4
Question 5

Answer Section

Question 1
Answer 1

Question 2
Answer 2

Question 3
Answer 3

Also, some of the questions are a bit long so if you are trying to read these aloud to a crowd it might be hard for everyone to follow the whole question.

In summary, immensely educational and entertaining. Best concept in a trivia book I've ever seen. This author has got it completely right. Extremely impressed. Best book that ever just randomly showed up in my mailbox.

5.0 out of 5 stars The answer's in the question 27 Oct. 2013

I was sent a copy of this book recently, free, gratis and for nothing, presumably in the hopes that I would enjoy it and then cobble a few words together on this very page in order to really emphasise that fact. Something about being 'obliged' to review something that had reached me in that manner seemed genuinely unsettling to me though. In fact it was so unsettling, that I had to go and actually buy an additional copy of this work just so I could feel like I was writing a genuinely honest and completely unbiased review of the pair of them. Am I a bit daft? I really think I might be.

Still, things could be considerably worse - with the help of this book, I managed to temporarily cut down to size one of the most big-headed, pompous and self-opinionated old windbags this side of the M25. It was quite fortunate my father came round that evening actually, given that I don't have a Kindle and so these trivia questions are all imprisoned on this clunky old computer here. I can't quite remember what I said to make him cancel all his plans and instead submit himself to myself and the quizzing machinations of Sumit Dhar but it was more than likely something totally innocuous like, 'Some of these questions are SO well thought out and challenging that I bet even someone like YOU would struggle to answer them'. Yeh, I do believe that was what I said. Something entirely accurate yet ever so slightly insolent. Yes, that sounds about right.

I don't know what his alternative arrangements might have been but the lure of this book was clearly enough for him to dump all thoughts of them, and even for him to throw his usual reluctance at having to spend any time at all in my company, completely out the nearest window.
