Review

Screwing it together As popular as the Triumph Twins were in the 60s and 70s, they are quite possibly more popular now. The new book from Wolfgang Publications offers complete start-to-finish assembly and restoration sequences on two Triumph Twins, a 1963 Bonneville and a 1969 Bonneville. Also included is the start-to-finish assembly of the 1969 engine and transmission. Rather than try to describe the miniscule differences that often separated one year from another, this book offers a colour gallery with left and right side views of all significant models from 1959 to 1983. With over 450 color photos, How To Restore Your Triumph offers 144 pages of hard-core how-to help for anyone who wants to repair or restore their own Triumph Twin. --Classic Bike Guide

Is it possible to write anything more about restoring a Triumph? Yes, it is and in Triumph Motorcycle Restoration authors Remus and Chitwood have put together a decent book to help anyone through their first restoration or even their second, third or fourth one. Based around two unit Triumphs – one from 1963 and the other from 1969 – the reader is shown how to pull the bike apart and offer suggestions on keeping to a logical sequence so parts don’t get lost or mislaid. There are hints and tips on how to make the restoration go smoothly, dealing with painted over holes and threads, tools you’re going to need and lots of clear, colour pictures showing the work actually being done. There are also sections on how to go about buying a used Triumph for restoration or regular use as well as sections on just how to keep one running and the discipline of a regular service routine. If you’re going to be a regular user of an old Triumph then here too this book will assist by showing what uprated systems are available. Things like electronic ignitions for instance that make life so much easier. Topping off the book is a photo reference section showing the timing and drive side of a selection of Triumph Bonnies and TR6s from 1959 to 1970 – look and drool! Definitely one for Triumph enthusiasts and probably one for Brit bike enthusiasts too. --Old Bike Mart

Product Description

The only guide available to fully restoring these classic motorbikes Contains step-by-step instructions with colour illustrations Full-colour gallery, showing right and left shots of all significant models from 1959 to the 1980 s all of correctly restored Triumphs A must for Triumph owners, will appeal to any motorcycle rider Reviews in Classic Bike, Bike, Motorcycle Sports and Leisure, Real Classic Magazine, Classic Motorcycle Triumph Twins first burst onto the scene in 1938, and continued to improve up to their demise in the 1980 s. This book covers the restoration of these classic and beloved machines, and is the only one to do so. In full-colour format, with two start-to-finish assemblies, with sidebars to cover how to correctly lace a wheel, which metal coatings are correct for which year. Written by Triumph restoration expert Gary Chitwood and well-known how-to author Timothy Remus, all the projects are practicle, clearly explained, and fully illustrated including the disassembly and restoration of both a Bonneville 1963 and a Bonneville 1969, in complete step-by-step stages with full illustrations, plus the overhaul and assembly of an engine for the 1969 model. It may be good to have a book that explains how to install a wheel in a frame, but how much better is it when this is shown as well in full colour the wheel being slipped up between the fork legs and the axle sliding through the fork and into the hub. With over 400 colour photos, this book offers 144 pages of hard-core how-to help for anyone who wants to repair or restore their own Triumph twin.

this book is a total waste of print and paper...it doesn't do what it says on the describition... don't bother with this book if you are attempting a triumph restore, this book is done by two americans and although there are plenty of colour photos, you are lucky if there is one sentence under each explaining . As regards to the wheel lacing for what these guys write about it is a waste of print...

This book is absolutely terrible, a complete waste of paper. If you were considering using this to undertake a Triumph restoration put your spanners back in the box and walk away. Nice photos but zero explanation, vast stages missed out, no technical detail and the wheel building section is a total joke. Should be done under the Trades Description act for describing this as a restoration manual.

The title of this book should have been "Triumph Bonneville USA Motorcycle Restoration", and subtitled "selected excerpts from strip-down and rebuild". That said, it's a good enough companion book, with some useful tips for any '60s Triumph owner.
