I decided to purchase this set of 3 for 4 reasons. Firstly I use skype for international calls, secondly I wanted to have a single device that can handle 2 lines at the same time (landline and skype), third I need 3 phones, and lastly I enjoy standardization (same phone in the kitchen, study and bedroom).
I have been using the set for over 3 months and here is what I think. Some pluses:
* Build and reliability is there. Dropped several times (wooden floor, from ~1.2m), all work fine. No loss of quality so far.
* Because the batteries can be replaced, after `upgrading' to ultra high capacity I can use the sets until my ear falls off (so for my wife, and she can chat even longer).
* Landline works when network is down.
* Very easy to distinguish landline/skype call (can be pre-programmed).
* Update (contrary to other users) works fine - as long as it is done on full batteries, over a good connection and the gizmos are NOT disturbed (I did mine on Saturday morning - no problems whatsoever).
* Range hand set/base works perfectly (high-rise building, concrete cement walls, various levels, 3-5 walls to pass with 2-10m distances).
* All sets `behave' in the same way - a call made from one will be displayed on the other (shared history via base).
* A hands free ear piece is a great add on (few quid in a mobile store) - handsets do have a standard jack!
Now, it is time to complain a bit:
* Using 1 hand set does not allow the others to be used (can't do a conference call); the handsets do have a loud speaker function which is a work around.
* Finish of the handsets is not makeup friendly (I always know when my wife was using them).
* Can't assign different ringtones to callers (or I can't seem to find how to do it).
* No idea how to assign quick dials (eg. 1- mom, 2-papa, etc.)
So, despite a few glitches - I'm all happy. A great piece of kit & technology.
