Elvis Sings the Great British Songbook

Elvis Aaron Presley is one of the biggest-selling artists of all-time, but mere numbers cannot begin to explain the colossal cultural impact he had in the mid-20th Century. He was a central figure in the transformation of the grey, conservative 50s into the technicolor 60s through the liberalizing effect of rock and pop music. Frank Sinatra had proved extremely popular in the 40s with young ... Read more in Amazon's Elvis Presley Store

This is the old Camden albums we bought very cheaply in the early 70s,all bring back memories of those days and most of us brought these albums first. They all run under half an hour but at least we dont have to turn them over anymore. For nostalgia buffs only I would say.The sound however is crystal clear.Great little triple softpack.

A 3-in-1 release 31 Aug. 2009
By A Fan - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This is a collection of three Elvis Presley albums from the early 1970s, Burning Love and Hits From His Movies, Separate Ways, and You'll Never Walk Alone. This is an excellent collection if you do not already own the individual releases.

Burning Love was one of Elvis' best recordings period. In order to be able to release several albums a year, Elvis' management had started packaging his new singles with some of his old songs releasing them as a "new" album. While it may have been a way to make a fast buck, Elvis' new material deserved better and should have been packaged with other new songs and treated as a major release, rather than a budget release. While the song Burning Love went all the way to number 2 on the Billboard singles chart and number 1 on the rival Cashbox chart, the album only managed to climb to 22 on the album chart. Elvis had enough new material at the time to put out a high-quality new album that probably would have done much better on the chart. As it was, they pretty much wasted his biggest hit of the 1970s by putting it on an album with a bunch of dated material.

Separate Ways was a budget release from 1972. This is actually not a bad album. The new single included here was Separate Ways / Always On My Mind. Separate Ways was a top 20 hit in the US while the flip side, Always On My Mind was the hit overseas. Also included were some nice up-tempo songs from the 1960's, Sentimental Me, What Now, What Next, Where To?, and I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell. To show you how far back they would reach for a song, it includes Old Shep which was a minor hit in 1956 and another 1950's song Is It So Strange. By the time this album was released, those songs were showing their age and were out of place on an early 70's release. It is no wonder that the album only managed to climb to 46 on the US album chart, though it would eventually sell more than a million copies and be certified PLATINUM.

You'll Never Walk Alone was a budget collection of some of Elvis' mellow Gospel songs. The only uptempo song is "Sing You Children". This album was originally released in 1971 and was a minor hit on the Billboard album chart peaking at 69, but over the years it has sold more than 3 million copies and been certified triple Platinum by the RIAA. This CD includes two songs that made the Billboard singles chart, "Peace in the Valley" (which was a Top 40 hit in 1957) and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (which peaked at number 90 in 1968).

Elvis tapes they use to sell at Truck on CD! 12 Sept. 2009
By </>< - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I had bought all 3 of these releases in the 80's at Truck stops where thye were sold (and I guess in record stores too).
I played these exact titles many many many times, loves them back then, still as fresh now!
The mixes on the songs are different at times, separate ways is much more a basic mix than on other Elvis releases.
Great songs, now all 3 tapes on 1 CD.....what a deal!

A good budget set 12 Dec. 2011
By G. L Vince - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I found this on a clearance rack and was rather amused by it. The Camden releases are what they are. They were a way to sell new singles yet were mixed up with old tracks as well. I had these albums on tape as a youngster and it's a format that time has gone on to prove was rather flawed. So that's that story. The other story is, no matter how flawed these albums are, it's hard to put them on and be pissed off. It's still solid music from Elvis Presley and it's hard to ever complain about that.
