Format: Audio CD
Although massively influential in their native Germany, Trio are best known in this country for their novelty top five hit Da Da Da.
This new version of their only UK album adds the extended 12" mixes of their sole British hit and, as a bonus, tracks from their eponymous (and incredibly limited) 10" mini album, B-sides, demos and other obscurities.
The band, part of the Neue Deutsche Welle, were highly revered in Germany, scoring three hit LP's, a clutch of singles and starring in their own movie Three Against Three. However they will be forever identified with their one hit - especially as it went on to become the soundtrack to Volkswagen and Ariston TV commercials.
But try and forget that. The album itself is a wonderful example of how music used to be. The days when one guitarist (Kralle Krawinkle), a circus clown-turned drummer (Peter Bherens) and a sullen, skinny skinhead with a cheap Casio keyboard (Stephen Remmler) were allowed to make a noise in a recording studio without having to win a no-talent talent show.
Think of a sound which feed off the likes of Spizz, Wire, early XTC and other post-punk noisemongers. Stand out tracks on the Klaus Voorman-produced album are the punky Ja Ja Ja, the frankly mad Los Paul - complete with bizarre battleground sound effects, Kummer and the English-language tracks Broken Hearts (For You and Me), Sunday You Need Love and, of course, Da Da Da.
Trio were different, challenging and, above all, fun. What a shame there are no groups around like them anymore.

I love this album. They were good musicians, with a sense of humour and irony and they were damn good showmen.

Best Christmas gift ever! 24 Oct. 1999

What a great CD. My grandmother gave me the album for Christmas when it first came out (I was 11 at the time), she thought Da Da Da was a kids song! Imagine my surprise when I saw the Volkswagon commercial, I flipped! Its a timeless CD, a few of the songs sound just as good today as they did years ago.

Ja Ja Ja 6 Feb. 2009

Minimalist music but not minimalist imagination. The English release simply does not hold a candle to this excellent German original. Sabine, not on the English release, is a perfect blend of music and theater, and a good reason in itself to get hold of this original. And the German Da Da Da is somehow both lazier and grittier than the English version, a perfect blend of lack of interest and hurt feelings (the first line goes "Da da da Du liebst mich nicht ich lieb' Dich nicht uh hunh").
Great album, plenty of great extras too. 11 July 2014

If the idea of minimalist rock is your thing, sort of 'new wave-ish,' sort of punk, a little dash of Krautrock for flavor, then you've got nothing to lose.

Beyond Da Da Da 23 May 2005
By lostwire - Published on Amazon.com

Quite simply the greatest album in the history of planet Earth. There's not a bad song in the bunch & the added demos are a real treat. It's truly a shame these fellows are known mostly for the song Da Da Da as they offered up so many more unique sounds & energy.
