Book Description

Trigger point therapy is one of the fastest-growing and most effective pain therapies in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve patients’ formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint pain, both conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits.

This book addresses the problem of myofascial trigger points—tiny contraction knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. Restricted circulation and lack of oxygen in these points cause referred pain. Massage of the trigger is the safest, most natural, and most effective form of pain therapy. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief.

The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, Third Edition, has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. This edition includes a new chapter by the now deceased author, Clair Davies’ daughter, Amber Davies, who is passionate about continuing her father’s legacy. The new edition also includes postural assessments and muscle tests, an illustrated index of symptoms, and clinical technique drawings and descriptions to assist both practitioners and regular readers in assessing and treating trigger points.

If you have ever suffered from, or have treated someone who suffers from myofascial trigger point pain, this is a must-have book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teach yourself a brilliant book 9 Feb. 2014

I chose this book because the sports therapist I went to used it and recommended it to me to help me self massage, which is essential if you wanted to stay pain free.
I explains techniques in depth with easy to follow exercises and is a must for anybody with problem trigger points, I have suffered for 20 years and been to different consultants who always said my problem was different things which could mean surgery, but after reading this book and seeing a sports therapist I have got my pain under control and almost gone, a perfect buy for sufferers of sports injuries.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Amazing 25 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My partner and I use the advice given in this book all the time. For relief of acute and chronic pain it hits the spot like nothing else I've come across. It is based on the idea of referred pain: that because a particular part aches, it doesn't mean that's where the problem lies. Often it is the body reacting to a different problem, overcompensating, or via a kind of chain reaction. It works. It is the work of a real genius, one who is prepared to go against conventional wisdom and find solutions to problems in a new, unique way. Brilliant!

Has allowed me to sort my Achilles out and has become part of my marathon schedule to warm up and cool down my calves. Also sorted out a sharp pain my son had in his left thigh when playing football for the last two years. Clear, easy to follow and comprehensive and will be very useful for the future. Worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of useful information 1 Feb. 2014

If you suffer from a condition that's exacerbated by trigger points, then this is a great book for self-help. Very clear instructions, lots of diagrams and alternative ways to treat the trigger points. I have RSI in my wrist, and it was recommended by someone with the same problem, and it seems to help. Worth a go - much cheaper than the osteopath!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holistic approach to healing using massage 12 Feb. 2015
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Love this book. It arrived yesterday and I have already altered my technique to make it more effective. It talks you through the muscles and what to search for and what to avoid when massaging in order to stay safe. It also explains how to actually release the trigger points without it becoming a huge battle. A very holistic approach.
