5.0 out of 5 stars My little property must-have 18 Mar 2011
I'm in the process of house hunting - I'm a first time buyer - and I was completely lost in the jargon. Not to mention that estate agents don't have the best reputation, you don't know who to turn to for help apart from friends and relatives. After reading Tricks and Mortar I now feel like I'm a bit more ahead of the game, I'm definitely not quite as stressed! It's given me some great insights into buying, and even interiors - it's my little handbook to buying a property!

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy hints 14 Mar 2011
I assumed this book would be full of the typical platitudes we hear from so-called TV property 'experts' such as "make sure your house is tidy before a viewing" etc etc, but I was actually suprised to find some handy tips which I can make use of. Probably I'd say the number one thing people do wrong is not to research prices around the area first; this book gives information on how to do just that. Also it helps you to adopt a more business-like approach when buying a house, which is pretty useful as I have a tendency to think with my heart instead of my head in these life-changing decisions. Not all of the topics and tips will be original for everyone but all in all it's well worth a read before making an offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't assume you know it all 9 April 2011
It's too easy to assume that if you've already bought a property you know all you need to for next time. But as is often the case the rules of the game continue to change. This handy sized book is easy to read and split into relevant sections so you can dip in and out as needed. Whether you already own a property, are looking to get started, or perhaps developing what you have, I thoroughly recommend you invest in this little gem!

5.0 out of 5 stars Move smarter 7 April 2011
An interesting and enjoyable read. It is full of useful tips and website recommendations, and makes you step back and think about what's important to you. A must if you're about to start house hunting as you'll feel more in control and ahead of the game but there are also plenty of useful tips for making the most of your current property if you decide it's not the right time to move at the moment .... just make sure you have this book to hand when it is the right time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of very useful tips and ideas..... 7 April 2011
All of my smart friends say "do your research" but I am always the guy who only looks at the user guide when something goes wrong, so the idea of using a guide to buy a house horrified me, surely there cannot be one set of rules for something with so many variables? Looks like I got that wrong; even the smallest tip from this book could potentially save me from a mistake I could regret for the whole time I own my next house, so give this book a try before you buy!!
