I remember George Layton from sitcoms of the late 60's and 70's and his books, The Trick, The Fib and The Swap have stories which have nostalgia by the bucket load. I bought these books to read with my nine year old daughter. She loves the stories and so do we (me and her Daddy). We often read them and laugh (or cry, some of the stories have sad elements) together. The stories are witty and entertaining and I'm sure would encourage reluctant KS2 or older readers to read and enjoy.

Format:Paperback
These short stories told through the innocent eyes of a young boy growing up in the fifties are captivating and beautifully constructed. Written in the first person, they manage to evoke a real sense of time and place through deft use of dialogue. And the relationship between the storytelling child and his mother and aunt are at times heartfelt and touching. Authenticity and charm aside, what make these tales so appealing are the revelations that each story so beautifully and cleverly unravells.
