This Season Is Like A Stack Of Cards....., 24 Jul 2006
.....you made one wrong move, and everything will come tumbling down!
Tribe fans were exciting, eager, to find out who the new-comers were from the plane at the cliffhanger of season 3. As well as that, fans were also curious to find out whether Amber would give birth safely.
As we start off with the first episode, it doesn't fool you that there are a only few Mall Rats roaming about! Between 5-10 minutes, you start to wonder, "Okay, when are they gonna show the other Mall Rats we've all grown to know and love?"
(Now, this is where the tumbling starts...)
The new-comers from the plane are a Tribe called 'Technos' who have, apparently, come to help them with their lives, so that it is more easier before the virus struck.
For this to happen, they needed to take a handleful of the kids from the City, and take them to workmines out of the City (it was never really specified why).
This causes a numerous amount of Malls Rats to vanish, and never to be seen again (apart from Tai-San who appears at the end of the season, but she doesn't appear in season 5).
The only original Mallrats we have are Amber, Trudy, Lex, Salene, Cloe, Ellie (I'm not counting Ebony cause she sold out! Sadly, we lose Ellie and Cloe in the middle of the season, but May comes back!). As you can see, the majority of everyone is gone.
Sadly, the new characters, mainly the Technos in my opinion, could not compensate for the old characters we lost.
The new characters were; Ram, Java, Siva, Jay, Ved, Dee, Mouse, Sammy, Charlie, Patch & Mega.
I didn't mind Java and Siva. But it annoyed me that Java was just like Ebony. Very cold-hearted and munipulative. We received enough of that from Ebony from the previous season!
Also, I didn't like the fact that Lex decided to be with Siva. I loved the chemistry between Lex and Tai-San. He went and ruined it.
Mouse and Sammy were decent, they resembled Patsy and Cloe in the first season, getting up to mischief and having a laugh.
Apart from these characters, everyone else was not decent enough.
The storyline for this season is basically about technology developed to an advanced race and how it munipulates and corrupts minds in the City (this season shows a more darker side to 'The Tribe).
RAM, the Techno leader, created various proto-types to sugar-coat and sweeten the city, for example, he created a head-set which allows kids to wear it, and play the 'GAME'. However, it comes at a price. They have to work in coal mines to get 'credits' so they can play the game.
They are many storylines in this season but I won't go into them.
Overall, this season was a very drastic change! Too drastic for my liking! It didn't feel like 'The Tribe' anymore. Season 4 and 5 felt like 'The Tribe - The Next Generation'
I don't know if they will continue onto season 6. Fans are desperate, however it seems unlikely that this will happen. The cast have grown up and moved on to other things in their life.
In some way, I would like a season 6 if it is handled properly. (They have unexplained storylines in the end of season 5, e.g. KC and Alice trapped in a cage on an island).
The original Tribe characters should come back, and it should be given a decent send-off. If season 5 ending is the ending for 'The Tribe', then that's dissapointing
In my opinion, Season 1, 2 and 3 is what 'The Tribe' is all about, and always will be.
