Oh wow.
I loved this dvd, and I'm using it regularly- the four sections cover exactly what a dancer needs to move from a beginner level to intermediate, and to get a good flavour of the Tribal Fusion style for those of us who are just starting to play with it. It starts with an introduction to locks with Kami Liddle- a beautiful dancer with a lovely manner. This section was quite similar to the moves drilled in Rachel Brice's dvd, but with Kami's slightly different take on them. Next is Moria's yoga-based conditioning and introduction to layering- again I was reminded of Rachel Brice and would have been happier if this had been the first section (warm-up anybody?), but her layering drills are amazing- if you've done Suhaila's bum-clenches you'll be on familiar ground here, I'm still working on stretching my legs sufficiently far apart! Samantha's section covers zills, and unlike some other introduction-to-zills programmes she concentrates not just on the rhythms, but developing the co-ordination to dance with zills. I'm a classically-trained pianist and organist so zilling alone didn't really pose any problems for me...well, until I tried to dance with them! This instruction is absolutely invaluable if like me you've never used zills as part of a class, and the short routine is an amazing confidence-booster- and great for a short burst of showing-off when you've mastered it! The dvd finishes with Sherri's section on floorwork, which has some brilliant floor moves and some excellent preparation for backbends, which I found most helpful as I haven't had any experience of either in class. She stresses the importance of protecting the lower back, and most importantly shows you how to do this and what to watch out for- so many instructors just say "be careful of your back" and leave you to work out what's not a good idea!
Overall, I really loved this dvd. It was a great introduction to Tribal Fusion, and the link between this style and ATS was clear enough that the moves were borrow-able, especially the zilling! I would quibble the order that the sections were presented in though- I tend to use Moria's first (yoga and isolations), followed by Kami's (locks and drills), Sherri's (floorwork- as she says, you need to be VERY warmed-up!) and finish with Samantha's (zills). But...that's what the remote control is for!!!
