Product Description

Product Description

The Trial, reinvented in this striking graphic novel, is the bleak tale of Joseph K arrested one morning for unexplained reasons struggling against a bewildering judicial process. K finds himself thrown from one disorientating encounter to the next, becoming increasingly desperate to prove his innocence in the face of unknown charges. In its stark portrait of an authoritarian bureaucracy trampling over the lives of its estranged citizens, The Trial is as relevant today as it has ever been.

About the Author

Franz Kafka (1883 1924) was one of the key fiction writers of the 20th century. A middle-class Czech Jew writing in German, Kafka refused to publish most of his works during his lifetime, even going so far as to instruct his friend and editor Max Brod to destroy his papers after his death. Brod went against the author's wishes, and Kafka has since become one of the most influential writers in Western literature. Often revisiting themes of alienation and persecution with a blackly comic touch, Kafka produced a body of work that mixes absurdity and hopelessness, the surreal and the mundane. His other works include The Castle, The Metamorphosis and numerous short stories.

CHANTAL MONTELLIER ARTIST Chantal Montellier is one of Frances s leading bande dessinée artists. A painter and teacher who abandoned her career in the Beaux Arts to become a cartoonist and illustrator, Chantal Montellier's work has appeared in a range of leading French newspapers and magazines including Le Monde, L'Humanite, France Nouvelle, L'Unite. She has written very successful graphic novels, most recently Tchernobyl, Mon Amour and Sorcieres Mes Soeurs (Actes Sud). She takes pride in her capacity to challenge people, and some of her work is very explicit. Her exhibitions include shows at the Beaubourg (Paris), and a retrospective at the Centre National de la Bande Dessinée et de l'Image, Angoulême. Her work has been featured on national and international radio and television.

DAVID ZANE MAIROWITZ ADAPTOR AND TRANSLATOR David Zane Mairowitz is an author/playwright/radio director/translator. A professional freelance writer for 40 years, he has published numerous books, including the successful Introducing Kafka (with Robert Crumb), Introducing Camus and Wilhelm Reich for Beginners. His theatrical plays include a critically acclaimed version of Kafka s The Trial. His articles have appeared in Harper's, Vogue, Plays and Players, the Village Voice, the Progressive and The Sunday Times. His short stories have appeared in literary magazines, including Partisan Review, New Directions and the prestigious Penguin Modern Stories. For the past 25 years he has produced radio dramas and documentaries for the BBC and in over 20 European countries, winning numerous international radio prizes.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Trial by Kafka - Graphic Novel, 9 Feb 2009

I found this didn't give enough detail of the novel.
It would be helpful to be told that you need the written novel and this is an add - on only.
