After meeting Kat at a fire Howard is instantly attracted and can't stay away but he has many secrets that threaten the relationship before it starts. It doesn't help that an arsonist has picked Howard to torment by setting fires where Howard will attend.

Howard seems all tough man but as you read the story you realise there is more to him and he has his flaws but that makes him more desirable. When he meets Kat it seems he has met his match as he can't stop thinking about her but as he struggles to let her in he manages to push her away. Kat is a strong woman but there is so much she had handle but when events force her to realise what is important her life changes forever.

This is one hella of a emotional, sexual and dangerous story. One sexy fireman with a luscious curvy woman makes the sex sizzle off the page.

Kat McKenna is checking on her parents house while they are away on holiday their neighbours are also away so she is checking on theirs as well, she is late doing this normally she checks on things a bit earlier in the day. As she is leaving her parents house she notices the house opposite is on fire. She can't believe it she immediately worries that she left something switched on or had done something to cause this. Calling the fire department she waits, but then decides to get the hose round the side of the house to try and halt some of the fire. Big mistake she is soon overwhelmed by smoke. The next thing she remembers is being looked after by this tall really tall fireman who is absolutely gorgeous.
A lot happens in this story, it is action all the way. I really loved the two leads Howard Paxton or six pack as he is known is a tortured guy he has some bad emotional problems stemming from his past. Kat is a first grade teacher and is very sweet and caring but with a strong side to her character. Howard and Kat's relationship is very realistically portrayed, the love scenes are very well written and of course hot.I loved all the characters in the story, especially all the gorgeous firemen, this book has all the necessary requirements that are needed to make a good story work. This is a first read for me by this author and this is the first book of a series, I can't wait to read about the other fireman of station five. Highly recommend.

Ok, so now I am seriously in love with both Six-Pack and Zack. I simply cannot choose between all those georgeous men that Jo Davis is creating.
Six-Pack is all man and muscles on the outside, but he has some serious traumas from his childhood. I almost felt sick when I read his flashbacks to the times his father beat him up. And I admit I cried like a baby at the end of the book. Quite usual for me to cry over a romance novel, but Davis writes in a way that really captures my heart completely.
Also, I'd like to say that the sex scenes are the most well-written I have ever seen. It never becomes tacky or weird or just too much.
Do yourself a favour and read this book if you like adult romance novel. They are true gems!

Well I really wanted to give 5* but I was a tad disappointed with Howard.
Howard was a lieutenant from the Sugarland fire department and to say this man was 6ft plus of pure beauty and muscle he didn't have much going for him 'upstairs' (if you get me meaning).
He was a whimp and it took Kat a school teacher to firstly talk to him like a 6 year old then bray him with a fishing rod before eventually he stopped crying and talked about his past. He got that emotional at times I was surprised he'd lasted all of his life without seeking professional help.
I must admit I'm partial to the more 'alpha' males although emotions are good from a man, one who whimpers a lot is not a good thing. This didn't do a fire man's street cred any favour's.

As you can see Trial By Fire has a cover that certainly catches your attention and gives you and idea of what to expect. This story proves, you never judge a book by its cover. Another email sent to me by Amazon, alerting me to The FireFighters Of Station Five Series. A look at the book description and I was swayed and straight away downloaded the first book to my Kindle, I will say now that you may as well download all five books as I am now the owner of the other four in the series. A few parts of the book that caught my attention, "Uh, I'd like you to go down on me until I come so hard I shrivel like plastic wrap?" and "Six and a half feet of gorgeous male perfection filled the entire entrance. A black t-shirt stretched over his buff pecs and taut abs, but the denim jacket hid too darned much from view. Her appreciated gaze slid down mile-long legs encased in soft jeans that hugged hard thighs and cupped the bulge of his sex like a glove." Have I swayed you yet? Are you reaching for the download button?

A little about the story, Howard Paxton, a Lieutenant at Station Five but we can call him Six-Pack, adopted at the age of four after suffering a horrendous child hood, rescues Katherine Frances, we'll get to know her as Kat. We then follow them on the journey of their relationship, the ups and downs. A spate of murders begin and they are associated with Howard and when you find out how, you will also sit there with your mouth open wide and having to pick your jaw off of the floor, I did. We meet, somewhat briefly, the rest of the FireFighters of Station Five and you get to follow up more with them the further you go along in the series.
