Product Description

Actor Richard Rietti (Michael Richards) has planned the bachelor party to end all bachelor parties for his lawyer friend, Charles Tuttle (Jeff Daniels). When Charles is sent to a remote desert town to handle a legal family matter for his future father-in-law, Richard relocates the party, and Charles reluctantly acquiesces. However, the following morning Charles is in no fit state to make a court appearance, so Richard takes his place. How difficult can it be?

5.0 out of 5 stars Just laugh out loud 8 Nov 2010
Format:DVD
It's that type of movie that never get's old. The main gold is to make you laugh and I must say it delivers perfectly. Of course that Michael richards character it's what keeps everithing going but in the end in order to spend a quiet evening laughing out loud just watch this and you won't be desapointed.
Cheers.

2.0 out of 5 stars The jury is out. 26 April 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A seemingly popular film in these columns, though made big losses on release. Not surprising, really. I wanted to like this as it featured Michael Richards, who was more than brilliant as the character Kramer in 'Seinfeld'. Unfortunately, though it had a good plot which promised much, the execution was lightweight, the acting overwrought, and the situations often daft, but not in a funny way. A lost opportunity considering the talent at hand. Would pass a rainy afternoon on the telly, possibly.
Disc also contains the trailer.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Cousin Vinny 2 11 July 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first heard about Trial and Error in 1997 in a column at the back of Total Film magazine called Fat Man In Hollywood. This page rounded up the new releases back when America got movies six months before everyone else. Trial and Error was briefly mentioned and dismissed as a weak and disappointing movie. As far as I can tell the film didn't get a proper release in the UK and I haven't heard a peep about it since.

Until now. Fifteen years later I stumbled across it. Curiously it was directed by the maker of My Cousin Vinny [1992], another little comedy about small town courtroom problems. My Cousin Vinny appears to be a low ambition, middling little movie, but it's strangely appealing, funny and much better than it at first seems. A very enjoyable movie.

Trial and Error is not a patch on Vinny. What it is though is a very entertaining film with likable characters, a good situation and a few solid laughs.

Michael Richards is a physical, near slapstick comedian. He doesn't have many opportunities to do that stuff here. And when he does it feels out of place and forced. Frankly none of his clumsy stuff is funny in this movie. Luckily he's also good at the verbal stuff so he still makes for a good lead actor.

Austin Pendleton is an obscure character actor. He usually lights up a film whenever he's on screen. He didn't have much to do as the judge. I'm not sure if it was a bad acting performance or maybe important reaction shots were cut, but I couldn't follow the judge's mood swings. He suddenly becomes angry and impatient in the middle, and then becomes amused towards the end.
