Having got introduced to the Sick Puppies initially, like many people, via the "Free Hugs" youTube video ("All The Same" background track) I absolutely loved their first album and had high hopes, but low expectations, for this, their second. Low expectations as bands often use up all of their great songs that they have spent many years developing, on their first album, then rush out another 10 songs in a year for their second.
However, this album is great. Probably a bit heavier than the first, and took me a few listens to really get into it, but, as with the first, there are some classic tracks on here and very little 'padding'. Both albums have some of the best production that I have ever heard on a rock album - clear vocals and powerful bass, a crisp sound that in my view really adds to the songs' impact.
Lyrics are pretty good - they will never be in a league with Dylan, Floyd etc, but they are certainly much more powerful lyrics than most bands around (that I am aware of) at the moment.
If you know Sick Puppies and like their first album, buy this one, listen a few times and you'll love it. If you like this album, buy their first one (Dressed Up As A Life). If you don't know Sick Puppies and are wondering if you'll like it, well, if you like Green Day, Foo Fighters, Nirvana etc, you'll love it. They are definitely not clones of those bands, however, they have their own style and bring it off well. I reckon these guys will be big...
