He is one of the most respected figures in rugby league and has a lifetime's involvement in the game. As well as playing for 17 years at the highest level, he was also the first national Rugby League Coach, was first team coach at Leeds, and has been involved with rugby league in Bradford since he retired from playing in 1955. He has also been awarded the MBE and the Papal Medal for his work in the community.
