"Tremulous Antenna" is a welcome re-release of Be Bop Deluxe's live recordings from the BBC archives previously released as "Radioland". Repackaged and remastered, this wonderful collection is now even more compelling than before. Compiled from "In Concert" sessions from 1976 and 1978, it portrays the band on top form with a diverse selection of songs from all stages of their career. The highlight of the set is probably the confident rendition of the "Modern Music" mini suite, but this really is cracking stuff throughout. If "Live! In the Air Age" leaves you wanting for more live Be Bop, this is a must have, but it also serves as a fine introduction for those who are not familiar with Bill Nelson's mob as yet.

Tremulous it sure is! 14 Mar 2007

Owning all of the original vinyl output of the band, I was curious as to whether this would hold up and even eclipse the magnificent Live In The Air Age album. Well, my heart sank when I listened to the opening track - out of key and very, very shaky - I thought somebody was taking the mickey releasing this as representative of such a wonderful band - so I hit the skip button and..........beautiful! All the memories of a truly great band hitting their stride came flooding back. Certainly by the time you get into the latter stages of the album including Islands Of The Dead and Panic In The World, you hear a band full of confidence and driving the message well and truly home. That said, although I do like this album, inclusive of it's warts and all performance, I don't think it's aimed at anybody other than the band's true fans. For anybody new to Be Bop Deluxe, the aforementioned Live In The Air Age album with it's strident and powerful performances of all the band's best loved numbers would be a much more suitable opener than this little collectors item.

I thoroughly recommend this album for fans of the band, if only for the live rendition of modern music;it is so well played and a wonderful alternative to the album version. The first song off-key flub is a beauty - straight after Bill's guitar intro it is the keyboard accompaniment that goes so wrong, but it will make you smile! I'd love to have seen the bands faces. Don't let it put you off, this album is a great partner to 'live in the air age'.The vocals are superb throughout.
