I bought one of these from Go Outdoors in Gloucester, and have used it a couple of times. Initially it was slung in the garden between two trees, as a trial. Since this was successful I used it on a bivi in some private woodland north of Malvern. The hammock was suspended between two obliging trees, a Therm-a-Rest Camping Mat inserted between the layers for insulation and comfort, and a DD Tarp suspended over it to keep the dew off. I was inserted between the layers of a Snugpak sleeping bag, as snug as a bug in a rug! Very comfortable, much more so than the normal bivi-bag on the ground - but you can't always find a sleeping spot with two trees at the right spacing! One of my co-campers had a Hennessey hammock, which is much easier to sling and pack (using a snake skin arrangement to cover the hammock and tarp in its entirety) but is also much more expensive.

The hammock comes in its own stuff bag (about 19cm long by 10cm diameter). It comes with two braided ropes for tying on, each about 3m long. I initially was concerned about the suitability of these as the friction points went very shiny after use - as if they were starting to melt. However, with sustained use there appears to be no damage so my concern may be groundless. I've also invested in a couple of lightweight carabiners to eliminate rope-to-rope friction between the hammock and the anchor ropes.

It's worth researching suitable knots for tying the hammock. I initially found that my knots were slipping, so I kept finding myself closer to the ground than I intended, and having to adjust the tension!

Not bad at all 24 Nov 2011
I bought this after trying the Gelert Mini Hammock which, although it very lightweight, was a little constrictive. The Gelert was great for children or people with smaller frames but it collapses in on itself and feels a bit constrictive for me.

The Expedition Hammock was significantly more comfortable and very spacious compared to the Gelert. Laying diagonally is possible on this hammock which allows for a slightly flatter, more comfortable hang. I've used this perhaps 3 times since purchase and it's easy to put up and feels sturdy. There's less give and stretch than a net hammock such as the Gelert. It packs away tightly, relatively lightweight and easy enough to put up with the right knots, tension and supports.

My only complaint with the purchase would be with the rope that comes with the hammock which you use to secure the hammock to trees/posts. It's plenty strong enough but it's made out of some very cheap nylon/plastic. Under strain, even quick-release knots and slippery hitches experience massive amounts of internal friction and melt internally as a result. This leaves you with a VERY tight knot which has essentially melted fast and hardened, making it impossible to untie without a sharp knife! There's also a little fraying/melting on the sling itself where the nylon cords attach to the sling, but I haven't noticed this to worsen over additional usage. Maybe it's a bedding-in occurrence? Personally, I'd much prefer to see the rope omitted from the product and the price lowered or superior rope and a higher price.

I'd still recommend this hammock, but chuck the rope that comes with it. I want to give this 4 stars but for the low price and quick delivery, I can't complain. 5 stars.
