4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value 29 April 2012

I used this poncho when I completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge in March 2012.
It certainly kept the worst of the weather off and also protected my backpack, so the contents of that were kept dry as well.

It is very light and for general walking worked well.
On the top of the peaks where it was very windy the poncho did flap around a bit which is to be expected. The popper that is supposed to keep the bottom seams connected and reduce this kept coming undone so it was not as useful as it could have been. Some sort of proper strap may be more useful.

Overall it worked as expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rain Poncho or Grim Reaper??? 11 July 2014

While I bought this item with the knowledge that it was coming from the UK, it shipped fairly quickly and probably took a week and a half to arrive. I purposely bought this item first for my hiking trip, knowing that it will take a little longer to arrive... but I did not know about how good the quality of it was. I really took a HUGE chance on this item (I even brought a huge contractor bag with, "just in case"). I'm happy to report that it did NOT let me down at ALL!!

I used it while hiking on the Appalachian Trail and though the rain came around the mountains and left about as quick as it came, it dumped quite a bit of rain on us in pretty short order. This poncho continued to keep me dry, storm after storm. I also liked that the top of the backpack cover has a zipper so you can pull the extra material into the inside of the poncho when you don't have your hiking pack on. And it was VERY easy (for me) to get it out and pull it over myself and my pack with my pack still on and without any assistance from my buddies.

The brim of the hood was a bit short, but it wasn't a huge deal because I wore a ball cap the entire time. I will say that the only downside to this item is that it had me sweating like a chain gang prisoner while I hiked with my heavy pack on. Breathability isn't that great, but there was a little draft coming from up under the bottom and a little from the sleeve openings and under my neck.

With that being said, I would still (and have already) suggest this item to other hikers. It's a little extra weight to throw in your pack or clip to the outside... but it's worth it when you and your pack stays dry the entire time!
