Very useful book. Essential for planning your Tibet trip. Tips on itineraries, ideas for treks, where and when to go. Hikes that you would never have dreamt of or only read about as brief descriptions in travel brochures are explained here in full detail. I tried some of them and want to go back for more. He writes with in-depth knowledge of the subject and with great sensitivity and enthusiasm. None of the guide books come near this.

If you are going to Tibet or simply want to dream about the many wonderful trekking possibilities in Tibet from your armchair, then get hold of this book. Having spent five years in Lhasa, I really appreciated the first edition of this book which I used every week. Now it has been expanded for the second edition to include even more details - new treks in little visited areas to day hikes around Lhasa, this book has it all. Also a great section on Tibetan language and the birds of the country. Have fun reading it. Alec Le Sueur.
