In the 80's, the Nephilim were the biggest underground goth band in britain. When they split in the early 90's, Carl McCoy headed out on his own and created Zoon under Nefilim. Now a new re-formed Fields of the Nephlim finally release new material. Although these two songs first came from their debut e.p, they are now presented in a Nefilim style sound: heavy guitars and the unmistakable voice of Carl. "One more Nightmare (Tree's come down AD)" is an onslaught of distorted guitar complete with the original reverbed arpeggio riff and new ambient effects. Carls vocals have definately matured with age and get deeper every time something new is released. "Darkcell AD" Originally had a sax solo in and seemed out of place, thankfully, this version hasn't and just like "One more..." it improves on the original. Fields of the Nephilim have excelled their-selves yet again and are still, in my books, labelled as gods.

The Nephilim are back

Heavier, louder, and pushed forward in time; but, still the familliar sound carried through. Though, I need to emphasise that this doesn't sound like either band spawned from the disbanding of the earlier incarnation: Rubicon and The Nefilim; it's not the same old Fields sound re-tread. Now utilizing more keyboards (think the moody use on Elyzium) and some minor drum pattern assistance, the long wait was well worth it.

It's a great single and I cannot wait to hear the new material!

*Note* I only gave this single 4 stars because both tracks are re-workings of older pieces.

One More Nightmare--Fields of the Nephilim 5 Aug 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This "new" release is very similar in sound to the last Nefilim album, "Zoon". It's a bit distressing that FothN feel the need to re-work two songs that were perfect the first time around, especially "Darkcell". Still it's great that they are at long last doing something. These re-workings are very much in the sort of dark, metal-like vein that Carl McCoy has been experimenting with, but they still possess a certain power. If one does not try too hard to compare these new versions to the originals, they are fairly good. Hopefully FothN will not take too long to release a new album of all new material.
Return of the Nephilim 4 Oct 2000

FOTN return with a powerhouse reworking of two old tracks. Whether or not this is a purposeful symbolic move to link past with future or a bit of laziness on behalf of McCoy & Co. is slightly ambiguous, but either way any new material must be cause for celebration. While ONE MORE NIGHTMARE plugs into the sound of Zoon, Darkcell hints at the slower, more Byronic moodiness which will hopefully manifest itself on the new album. One thing's for sure, in an age of marketing-man pop music with 3 week shelf lives, we need the Nephilim.
