Biography

A Brief History Of The Triffids... Like some unholy trinity, The Triffids, along with Nick Cave and The Go Betweens seemingly conspired to change people's attitude towards Antipodean rock in the mid-eighties, never before taken even remotely seriously. I984 was the pivotal year when The Go Betweens released Spring Hill Fair, Cave debuted with From Her To Eternity and, in late August, The ... Read more in Amazon's The Triffids Store

A gem from the Antipodean new wavers. This album's a unique blend of rockabilly, moody vocals, old school rock and roll guitar riffs, and even the odd violin solo!
Would probably appeal to fans of The Cramps, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, The Pogues, and good ol' fasioned R&R.
Highly recommended!

If you like the Triffids, get this album as well - there are some great tracks on it, on a par with their best work. Red pony, My baby thinks she's a train, Hell of a summer, and above all the astounding Rosevel. There are hints of inspirations from American rock, but this is very much a band with its own personality. They would develop, but the core is already there - and it is great. McComb's voice with that amazing violin; and great songwriting, too.
An astounding debut from a great band.

It's not Sandy Born Devotional but the first official Album shows a lot of everything that will make The Trffids one of the best bands in the world. Titles like "Red Pony", "Place In The Sun" or the impressive "The Hanging Shed" reflects the diversity of styles the band covered and try to explore next. The extra tracks are welcome, especially "The Interview".
A great start!

A good place to start ... "looking out on my treeless plain" 29 July 1998
By John Hempton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The Good Lord had our best interests at heart (as the Triffids went on for years after this el-cheapo production).
This is simply one of the grandest pieces of Antipodean independent music ever.
