Book Description

10 Mar 2008 0810995190 978-0810995192
Following the amazing success of "Treehouses of the World", "Treehouse Living" looks upward once again into the canopy to present new directions in treehouse design. Over 300 beautiful colour photographs and illustrations explore the many possibilities of truly living in nature, from very refined, comfortable structures, to the more rustic treehouses that seem to vanish into the foliage, to the utter simplicity of a comfy bed nestled into a tree. Perhaps most amazingly, all of the treehouses shown are 100 per cent eco-friendly: no nails were hammered into trunks and no branches were cut. A unique source of inspiration for any parent and child looking for new treehouse ideas, "Treehouse Living" is also perfect for anyone interested in architecture and how perfectly we can live harmoniously with nature.

About the Author

Alain Laurens was the president of a large publicity agency before founding his small company, La Cabane Perchee, in 2000. He was inspired by childhood memories and Italo Calvino's The Baron in the Trees when he started conceiving tree houses and building them around Europe. His partners Daniel Dufour, a watercolour artist and Ghislain Andre, a carpenter, respectively design and build the cabins with a team of carpenters and woodworkers.

1.0 out of 5 stars An unimaginative company brochure 10 July 2008
Format:Hardcover
Looks like a gorgeous coffee-table book, feels like one too. The image on the front cover is great and first impressions are very positive. However, after a couple of minutes of browsing through the 50 treehouses you realise two things. First, all the treehouses are built by the same company (no problem there), and secondly every one looks pretty much the same. They all seem (to me) like rather modernist sheds stuck up a tree; lacking the whimsy or romance of a true treehouse. There is little design variety and consequently the book fails to hold your interest for more than five minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars good design ideas 8 Jan 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
In spite of the negative review above, we chose this book because of the "design" wording. Even if the constructions are all by the same company and therefore with some similar elements, we found the book very beautiful and good on the "inspiration" level. We bought this as a gift for a very difficult-to-please hands-on person, and he was delighted. If you are looking for a book to start someone's imagination going this could be it. It also holds some practical aspects, though I cannot comment on their validity...yet!
