Book Description

15 May 2004 0881926302 978-0881926309
Tree ferns in the landscape command the attention of both devoted gardeners and casual passersby. Their stately form resembles that of the palm tree and evokes a feeling of the quintessentially exotic. This volume is "the" source for information on the living tree ferns. It surveys families, genera, and species, including those suitable for the home garden. It offers up-to-date taxonomy and detailed descriptions as well as in-depth coverage of everything from tree fern use to conservation. In recognition of the horticultural importance of tree ferns, the authors provide extensive cultivation information, including propagation, and diseases and pests.

Product Description

Review

""Tree Ferns" was not intended to be an identification manual. Its primary purpose is to stimulate interest, expand our knowledge, and bring us up to date on important findings about these elegant plants; for this, the authors are to be commended."
--Barbara Joe Hoshizaki, Pacific Horticulture, Fall 2004

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book. 18 Dec 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The majority of Tree Ferns you buy in UK Garden Centres are hardy enough to survive in most UK gardens but this book helps ensure your Tree fern is looked after properly. I also found this book so informative and interesting I went out and bought another couple of small Tree Ferns. They look great for that tropical part of your garden and if you get a good specimen can be a great centre piece.

This account on Tree Ferns is very well written and researched and the book itself is well produced and presented. A book worthy of consideration for all those interested in tree ferns in habitat or cultivation

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to find the new valid names 7 Jun 2011
By dhaaki - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
In 2010, Flora of Peninsular Malaysia, Series I: Ferns and Lycophytes has been published. However, only one tree fern, Cibotiaceae was included. Recently many tree ferns' valid names have been changed. But it is not easy to find out legitime names. I happened to find "Tree Ferns" and ordered. This book is realy well organized to find the valid species names. The authors provided the synonym in each species part and also arranged the index with synonym.

Quality of picture is disadvantage of this book. They are not useful to catch the characteristics of each species.
