Product Description

Review

"The chapters in this book are well laid out, and the book will be very useful for students and new practitioners, as well as providing an update for experienced physical and occupational therapists."
Ann M. Reiner, 1 August 2010

"Treatment of Cerebral Palsy and Motor Delay by Sophie Levitt is a book with a lot of practical information … a chapter on evidence–based practice has been included and that is very good … the numerous illustrations are very clear and informative"
Eva Beckung, Acta Paediatrica, 2011

Product Description

Treatment of Cerebral Palsy and Motor Delay is first and foremost a practical book, a distillation of Sophie Levitt′s considerable experience in treating those affected by cerebral palsy. This fifth edition outlines therapeutic approaches and suggests treatment and management options, providing a wealth of practical information, supported by clear diagrams and photographs, on assessment, management and treatment. The book emphasises an eclectic, holistic approach, and integrates current ideas on motor control and motor learning in a further development of Levitt′s Collaborative Learning Approach. This new edition provides greater commentary on evidence–based practice, as well as practical, updated information on the use of Botulinum Toxin, orthopaedic surgery and the therapist′s role following these procedures.

Format:Paperback
The fifth edition of Sophie Levitt's book "Treatment of Cerebral Palsy and Motor Delay" belongs on the book shelves of every Cerebral Palsy Treatment Centre, or Child Development Centre. Ms. Levitt has created a book which incorporates both solid treatment suggestions and current principles of family centered care, cultural sensitivity and close inter-professional collaboration. Throughout the book there is emphasis on respect for the goals and priorities of the family and the child with CP, and the importance of blending therapy with play. The child is not seen as a passive recipient of treatment, but an active participant.

This book includes an up to date chapter on evidence based practice, which can assist the clinician in the evaluation of research studies and the development of research protocols. A practical approach to assessment describes observational assessment as well as many standardized assessment tools, their specific purpose, and application in the development of treatment plans.

But it is the wealth of specific treatment suggestions and activities based on Ms. Levitt's extensive experience and her collaboration with expert clinicians from around the world which sets this book apart. Activities which are organized according to the starting positions and motor development of the child are well
described. There is also information on how to choose and employ equipment, and on how to manage deformity.

The chapters in this book are well laid out, and the book will be very useful for students and new practitioners, as well as providing an update for experienced physical and occupational therapists.
