Product Description

Review

'Enteraining the Persian Way' is more than just a recipe book: it is a travelogue and diary, recapturing everyday life and events in old Persia. Many of the dishes are vegetarian and the emphasis is on low-fat, healthy eating with not too much spice. The sweetmeats and pastries section is mouth-wateringly good. --Company

The most intriguing aspect of Persian cuisine, as 'Entertaining the Persian Way' reveals, is it's inventive combination of sweet and savoury as in meat, chicken or beans stewed with fruits and spices. The book suceeds where British restaurants emulating this idea have failed. --The Sunday Times

Product Description

A Treasury of Persian Cuisine is a fascinating insight into another culture and another history and its reflection in a different cuisine. Shirin Simmons takes us thousands of years back to a Persian civilisation that existed before the Greeks were heard of, then forward via Artaxerxes and Ghengis Khan to today s Islamic state of Iran, interweaving the whole with a broad knowledge of the traditional foods of the region and their significance. The qualities and medicinal properties of the ingredients she cites are detailed in depth and their place and relevance in our diet is explained.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good recipes but not easy to use, 9 Mar 2003
By Mr. Philip Graham "Phil Graham" (North East England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have tried several recipes in this book, all of which have been excellent. There are a couple of problems though - the index feels as though it was added as an afterthought and in a hurry and it can be difficult to find a particular recipe unless you know the exact name (if it's listed at all); also in many cases a recipe will say something like "prepare the meat as for prune khoresht" but give no page number, nor is "prune khoresht" listed in the index (and even if it was, it's not ideal to have to flick between two different receipes). That said, I think the book is well worth persevering with - not only is it is a comprehensive collection of authentic receipes, it is also an extremely interesting read

5.0 out of 5 stars Second thoughts!, 13 Feb 2006
By Sandra Wright (North East England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Since I wrote my initial review of this book I have continued to use it often, simply because the recipes are by far the best Persian recipes I have found, despite having bought several other Persian cookery books in the meantime. And although the index could be better, this is far outweighed by the sheer range of recipes and the fact that they are totally reliable and authentic.
