Product Description

Review

Nature and gardening have inspired centuries of poets to wax lyrical on the subject: from Wordsworth's daffodils to Thomas Moore's "Last Rose of Summer", Sylvia Plath's "Mushrooms" and D.H. Lawrence's "Red Geranium and Godly Mignonette". This charming collection spans the aeons of time, focusing on every aspect of nature and horticulture from gardens, plants, insects and more. Eclectic subjects such as slugs and caterpillars are addressed by Sharon Olds and Christina Rosetti whilst A.E. Housman's "A Shropshire Lad" provides an endless treasure trove of verse on nature, gardens and flowers. A balanced collection full of humour, love, wonder and awe, each poem is accompanied by a stunning botanical print gleaned from the Royal Horticultural Society's vast Lindley Library making this a delightful gift for any gardener. - Lucy Watson

Product Description

From the RHS comes this compendium of poetry about gardens and garden plants, themes that have provided inspiration for poets since the dawn of time. The poems span many centuries and include the work of such great writers as Wordsworth, Spenser and Shakespeare.

a complete treasure 21 Dec 2007

it's not often you find ogden nash and shakespeare in the same company, but this exquisite book does just that - and throws in dorothy parker and john agard into the bargain. the illustrations are utterly beautiful and if i didn't think it sacrilege i'd suggest you buy the book just for the pictures! for any of those difficult aunties/mothers-in-law/sisters-in-law/grannies/godmothers/people who like gardening/people who like poetry, buy this book. it's beautiful enough to make you catch your breath.

A Kid's Review
Although I love the contents of the book it was to give as a present and the quality was a good bit less than suggested.
