A wonderful gift for any lifelong Stones fan 28 Dec 2011
By Danno - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Here's an excellent gift for any Stones fan. This is an oversized coffee-table style book in a cardboard slipcase, filled with photos of the Stones throughout their careers and featuring a nice overview of what the band is about written by Glenn Crouch, who actually worked with the band when he was with Virgin. I have quite a lot of Stones-related books and many of the pictures in this book aren't ones that I've come across often before. Since this is an "unauthorized" book, it's refreshingly free from the editorial influences of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and as a result seems quite authentic and nonpretentious.

Much like a similar book on Led Zeppelin, this book also contains reproduction collectible memorabilia which you can slide out of their envelopes and is designed to look and feel as authentic as possible. Certainly fooled me, although I don't appraise the authenticity of collectibles for a living, so take my praise here with a grain of salt. Given that the book is "unauthorized" you won't find reproduction 8 X 10 glossies or much of anything with the famous tongue and lips logo. You will, however, find ticket stubs, backstage passes, autographed booklets, the SuperBowl setlist on stationary, etc. I like this kind of tactile stuff because I like to save old ticket stubs and booklets from concerts I've seen. It also reminds me of the reproduction paper props from the book "Harry Potter - Film Wizardry" which is another excellent example of a coffee-table book with lovely tactile props you can take out of the book.

I just wish it came with a Stones guitar pick.

In sum - this is an ideal keepsake gift that any true Stones fan is going to treasure. Buy it before it goes out of print!

If you grown up with the great times of Long Player records and a real record player, you know the thrilling moment when the new Rolling Stones LP was announced. On the Rolling Stones No.2 was a nice cover text from Andrew loog Oldham which come together with this brilliant soulfull Stones book for fans made by a ex-virgin manager Glenn Crouch: IF YOU DON`T HAVE BREAD;SEE THAT BLIND MAN ; KNOCK HIM ON HIS HEAD; STEAL HIS WALLET AND BUY THIS BOOK!" (In case of political correctness delirium, this was a joke).
But real, I have a lot of Rolling Stones books and this is a rare one in full dress , serious text, wounderful rock-paper-scissors and and and. So, take a Stones record people, a glass of wine , sling out your independent hip-hop kids, play the music loud that the neighbours could dance and read and browse this wounderful Rolling Stones Book from Glenn Crouch. And three cheers to You Glenn Crouch! And many thanks.

If you love the Stones & the tactile richness of physical books, it doesn't get much better than this!! It's a basic history with some terrific, more obscure photos, but it's the repro stuff in the little folders throughout the book that provides a sense of astonished discovery...tickets, postcards, handbills, backstage passes, even a poster & more. Slipcover and layout are nicely done. Treasures, indeed!!!

I bought a few 50-year anniversary books after the great concert recharged my already love of the music and the guys..If you like the books with 'take-out' pieces, such as backstage passes, and older reproduced/copied memoribilia-this book is a lot of fun. I like it, no regrets.

I bought this for my 19 year old son and he absolutely loves it. All of the "Treasures of... " books we've purchased are fabulous and a perfect gift for a true fan.
