5.0 out of 5 stars Foundational work on the Armenian Christian art 17 Mar 2011
By Ed
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
It is no exaggeration to say that this is a foundational work on the Armenian Christian art - in fact one simply has to use superlatives in describing the importance of this book in bringing the treasures of the Armenian Christianity to the English-speaking world. With acclamations by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Catholicos of All Armenians, this beautifully produced book is a must-have not only for all English-speaking Armenians but also everyone interested in the Eastern Christianity. There are brief historical and theological introductions but the exceptional value of this work I believe lies in the careful selection and inspired description of the many illuminated manuscripts and objects that formed part of the exhibition. This work is unparalleled by its breadth and quality of coverage of Armenian Christian art, and is unlikely to be matched for many years to come.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible book 11 Sep 2001
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Unless you are already well versed in the topic of Armenian art, do not get this book. Every page it mentions about 20 names, and it only tells you who about half of those people are. It quickly jumps from topic to topic, making it difficult to follow. Finally, the language that it uses is extremely difficult to understand, both the vocabulary and sentence structure. There are other boooks out there, and they must be better. Pass on this one.
