This is a strong compilation of 'Rock Steady' sounds. Pound for pound, a better compilation than the 'Ska' double cd in the 'Treasure Isle' series. There's a good mix of familiar tracks and some that are not so familar. It comes with a 12 page booklet that has lots of label scans (if small) and brief liner notes by Ian McCann, Editor of 'Record Collector' - a fine magazine.

CD1. 1966 - 67 (56mins). This is the stronger cd in my opinion, it contains fantastic tracks by Phyllis Dillon 'Don't stay away', lots of great tracks by the Paragons (led by John Holt) the best being the wonderful 'Only a smile' - worth buying for this heartbreaking track alone. Nearly all good 9.5/10.

CD2. 1967 - 68 (57 mins). Not so strong, but still contains some real gems - 'Why birds follow Spring' by Alton Ellis and many by the wonderful 'Melodians'. Mixed bag 6.5/10

Overall, a great compilation of mellow sounds. Fully recommended.

A brilliant compilation: these tunes are absolute scorchers from start to finish. Almost all (if I'm not mistaken) of them were produced by Duke Reid, who at the time was putting out some of the best rocksteady tunes of the era on his label Treasure Isle.

This is the perfect compilation to anybody who is new to discovering the rocksteady sound who want a corking set of tracks to start, or compliment, their collection. This together with the Trojan Presents: Rock Steady compilation CD will give the best range of the most popular rocksteady tracks that you can get on the contemporary music market, all for under a tenner! And if these CD's don't leave you wanting more, then rocksteady ain't for you!

Brought back many memories. Husband is thrilled and pleased. A must for the real DJ who plays out at all age parties. Worth every penny. Delivery was very quick. Thank you.

A lot of Brits missed out on some excellent music, partly because of it's time.
This is a nice cd to put on and chill to.

The rhythm is relaxing and shows earlier genes of ska etc.
