Synopsis
Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of swashbuckling adventure and buried treasure comes to the screen once again in this adventure for the whole family!
Young Jim Hawkins lives a very normal life at the Admiral Inn with his grandmother until a stranger named Billy Bones stumbles into the inn and describes how he is being pursued by a man named Blind Pew. Bones then tells Jim that he will find a map of Treasure Island in his trunk. With that, Hawkins and his companions Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney on board the Hispaniola with cook, Long John Silver. As they get closer to the island--and untold treasure--Hawkins realises that "the crew" are much different than they appear and that his life may be in great danger!

A very disappointing version of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic. This is not because of its obvious low budget but because of its completely inexplicable change of plot from the novel. There seems absolutely no reason why such a wonderful story has been tampered with - novels are often adapted for film but so far does this stray from the novel that poor old RLS must surely be spinning in his grave! What a pity, I quite enjoyed the sight of the Isle of Mann magically transformed in to a tropical island using nothing more than a couple of potted palms.

I think this film is really good, despite going against the book. The film is good in its own rights and shouldn't be compared to the book. It is full of action, surprise and betrayal. This is well worth a watch for anyone who is a fan of the book, and perhaps would be interested in this alternative ending.

Young Jim Hawkins lives with his Gran at the Admiral Benbow Inn. Staying there is a man who when attacked by an old sea enemy gave Jim Hawkins a map to Captain Flint's Treasure. With his Gran dead Hawkins sets out to find the treasure with a load of menacing pirates. However, during their voyage Hawkins discovers that not all the pirates are as friendly as first thought. Once on the island the party divides and go against each other in the race to find the treasure.

I really enjoyed this film. It is reasonably easy to digest and not too complicated, but reading the book beforehand is useful. Of course it's impossible to recreate the effect the book has and that's probably why it is slightly different. But that adds a different perspective of the book.

Overall a well shot film, great for the family.
