Product Description

Lanik Mueller's birthright as heir to planet Treason's most powerful ruler ship will never be realised. He is a "rad" - a radical regenerative, a freak who can regenerate injured flesh...and trade extra body parts to the Offworld oppressors for iron. On a planet without hard metals - or the means of escape - iron is power in the race to build a spacecraft. Iron is the promise of freedom - which may never be fulfilled as Lanik uncovers a treacherous conspiracy beyond his imagination. Now charged with a mission of conquest - and exile - Lanik devises a bold and dangerous plan...a quest that may finally break the vicious chain of rivalry and bloodshed that enslaves the people of Treason as the Offworld never could. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I don't normally post reviews, but after finishing this excellent book, and having read the review by Steve Gardiner, I failed to see any anti-gay message in the book, despite consciously looking for one. The only scene which the reviewer could have been referring to is one in which a female attempts to seduce the main character Lanik (who she thinks is also female), but Lanik is forced to decline due to plot-related reasons, and nothing to do with any kind of "anti-gay" reasoning. Further, I have read the majority of OSC's books and have not noticed any anti-gay message whatsoever.

In short: this book was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and reconfirmed my admiration for OSC, who I believe to be one of the top writers of his genre. Any anti-gay message belongs solely in the imagination of the aforementioned reviewer.

I found OSC's 'Treason' to be a refreshing and absorbing read. When I say refreshing I mean that I find it excellent that he can create a story as well rounded yet mind-bending as in his series' in a single book. As an avid reader of OSC, I delight in this.

The book has an extraordinary and emmotive plotline, with interesting twists and well thought-out consequences for the character's action. This book mixes space-age science fiction with a more magical fantasy theme in excitingly varied settings with a character who gradually develops different abilities. This constantly changing and growing character becomes deeper and more leveled and leads to surprise plot turns.

The different strengths, weaknesses and powers developed by the various 'tribes'allow the reader to gain an affinity with one of the many peoples and settings described in the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the read and would recommend it to any sci-fi or magical fantasy reader looking for a unique and refreshing mix of the two.

Finally, I would like to agree that I have read many of OSC's books, and all of his series' and have found no hint of any 'anti-gay' theme, whatever his personal beliefs may be.

This is one of Orson Scott Card's best books in my opinion and starts with an interesting idea and generates a whole reality and culture around this idea. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader entertained and the plot is well developed, surprisingly good for such a short novel.
